Did Dave win the X-wing AKA the Greg Jein Auction Wrap Up Show AKA the Ballad of Bidder 7101

Did Dave win the X-wing AKA the Greg Jein Auction Wrap Up Show AKA the Ballad of Bidder 7101
All of America and Dave’s wife are wondering: Did Dave win the X-wing? Tune in to find out. Hear all about the wins, the losses, the endless sitting. Where does the Star Trek market stand?  And who or what was the mysterious Bidder 7101. Ryan and a slightly dazed Dave take us moment by moment, bid by bid, Shatner hairpiece by hairpiece through the incredible weekend in Dallas that was the Jein Collection. Plus special guest Heritage bigwig Joe Madalena talks with the guys about what it all means to the hobby and -- if you can believe it -- what’s next.  And to the tune of Les Miserables’ Inspector Javert:
FIVE YEARS FOR WHAT YOU DID
THE REST BECAUSE YOU TRIED TO RUN
    YES, 7101

WeeklyTrek #231: Star Trek Prodigy Finds a New Home at Netflix

WeeklyTrek #231: Star Trek Prodigy Finds a New Home at Netflix

On this week’s episode of WeeklyTrek, TrekCore’s news podcast, host Alex Perry is joined by Infinite Diversity co-host Thad Hait to discuss all the latest Star Trek news.

This week, Alex and his guest discuss the following stories from around the web:

In addition, stick around to hear Thad’s theory about what we might learn at this week’s New York Comic Con, and Alex’s theory that this week’s Heritage Auctions auction of the Greg Jein Collection of props and costumes, including treasures from many of the Star Trek productions, will raise a lot of money.

Two Grown Adults Prepare for the Greg Jein Auction

Two Grown Adults Prepare for the Greg Jein Auction

Everything is in the wrong order. The big stuff comes last and the small stuff comes first. What if we're too responsible, and we end up with nothing? Holy Batman props, Batman! Why is there another X-Wing? Did we wrong the prop gods?  Everyone will have spent all their money on the TOS Trek stuff, right? Right? Dave already has a Stormtrooper from A New Hope. So what that this one is in perfect condition, complete, and a hero. Will having it change his sense of self worth? And do our children really need to eat? Like, every day? Houses are over-rated. Except that you need a place to put your cool stuff. Ryan's made it this long without a 2001 costume -- he won't suddenly burst into flames if he continue to not have one, will he?  But what if he does?  Khan!!!!! Consternation, stagnation, and indignation: this week on The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of.

    Greg Jein: Miniature Giant

    Greg Jein: Miniature Giant

David and Ryan have learned all there is to know about the Greg Jein collection (not that they'll stop talking about it anytime soon..) But who was Greg Jein: the man? To find out, they speak to two people who actually knew him: John Eaves, conceptual artist and model builder for Industrial Light and Magic, and Joe Maddalena, his friend and his "supplier of rare antiquities". Put your auction paddles down (just for a moment) and hear what surprised the guys so much about the Bigfoot of prop collecting.

The Greg Jein Collection, Part 3

The Greg Jein Collection, Part 3

In this super-sized final installment, the guys complete their climb of the Everest that is the Greg Jein collection. Beginning with Star Trek: The Next Generation and going through Star Wars and beyond, the guys cover what is perhaps their most alluring part of the catalog... at least to David. They discuss everything "New Trek" from Picard to Voyager to the JJ-verse. Then, they stare at a monolithic (eh?) original Clavius Base spacesuit from 2001, more studio-scale models (!), and more shows from V to Battlestar to Space: 1999 to Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. And of course, two of the greatest Star Wars pieces to ever come to public auction: a complete, screen-matched hero stormtrooper and the screen-matched, hero "Red Leader" X-Wing. To discuss those, they are joined by Imperial Stormtrooper Gino Sabatino and studio-scale model builder and historian Jason Eaton!

The Greg Jein Collection, Part 2

The Greg Jein Collection, Part 2

In part two of their enthralling catalog deep-dive trilogy, David and Ryan are re-joined by collector, friend of Greg Jein, and Trekspert Rob Klein to page through the beating heart of the collection: Kirk and Spock Star Trek. Beginning with the laser pistol from the original, un-aired pilot of Star Trek (The Cage!) and going all the way through Star Trek: Generations, listen as the guys go on a tour of the most staggering Trek collection ever held in private hands. There are more than 10 Kirks, 4 Spocks, shuttlecraft(s), phasers, tricorders, communicators, ears, hair pieces, tribbles -- [George Takei voice] "Oh my!"

12: Greg Jein Tribute / Max’s Master Com Cosplay

12: Greg Jein Tribute / Max’s Master Com Cosplay

Max shares stories on his Master-Com cosplay outfit. Who is Master-Com you ask?

He is a droid seen in the classic Marvel Star Wars comics issues 18-23. Master-Com was the personal assistant to Simon Greyshade who was the administrator of The Wheel casino. Think of a really buff C-3PO. This costume was years in the development but Max got it done just in time for Star Wars Celebration 2022. Looking back at all the great cosplay, this was the deepest dive character.

Max also pays a heartfelt tribute to his mentor and model maker and film historian, Greg Jein, who recently passed away. Listeners of THE MAX EFX PODCAST will remember many stories Max has shared in the past as Greg was the first person to hire him in the effects back in the mid 1980’s. Some of Greg’s credits include Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Steven Spielberg’s 1941, and Star Trek.

He will be missed but remembered very fondly…
