Uncomfortable Situations - Holy Envy Together EP: 4

NAME OF THE SHOW: HOLY ENVY TOGETHER

Episode 4: Have you ever been in an uncomfortable situation or conversation? Feeling uncomfortable is a cheap price to pay for the learning and change that can come with it. We discuss this topic through the lens of interfaith/multicultural/interracial relationships. We give examples from our own lives on how to deal with, overcome, learn from and embrace uncomfortable situations.

Description of the show: Are you worried about the polarization? How do you think fear can be dealt with on a smaller and larger scale? What are your thoughts on peacemaking in everyday life? We, a Muslim and a Christian living in the US, spend our 15 minute episodes exploring interfaith, multicultural grassroots relationship building. Through humor filled conversations and experience sharing, we talk about topics like uncomfortable situations and fear. Why? Because we believe that becoming friends across the various invisible barriers, that (unfortunately!) surround us, is a fundamental way of overcoming the dangerous “othering”.

Baat Corona (Urdu ) - Lets Talk with Quratulain Bakhteari

Baat Corona (Urdu ) - Lets Talk with Quratulain Bakhteari

    Baat Coron - Lets Talk

This will be a weekly program beginning during the Corona Virus Quarantine. I do plan to continue it after we are Inshaa Allah - God Willing out of this current self quarantine times.

This program will be in Urdu and in English. I feel privileged and honored to have become good friends with Quratulain Bakhteari, a dynamic and charismatic personality full of energy and joy.

Quratulain Bakhteari opened her first Center for Development Studies, comprised of a small group of dedicated activists/teachers and whose size, mode of operation and scale will be easily replicable. She has set up the Center in Queta, Baluchistan, an area removed from the well-traveled and more populous areas where academic institutions exist.

The provincial government has given her a former school and surrounding land to use, on the basis of Quratul Ain's success in dramatically increasing female literacy in the province in the past. Quratul Ain believes that, to be successful, the people she trains have to share common philosophical underpinnings and a willingness to dedicate their lives to the service of their communities.

By living in relatively spartan conditions and by teaching students to understand the communities and not want for their physical and emotional needs while undertaking this important work, Quratul Ain believes that a new generation of community development professionals can be properly trained to be creative and courageous in articulating and fulfilling the needs of their communities. Quratul Ain sees each graduate of her courses as a member of a broader fellowship of properly oriented community professionals.

She expects that these people will act as educators; and, buoyed by a common view of their calling, work in concert and collaboration. This is one of the reasons that she is focusing her student recruitment on particular districts in particular provinces - so she can build a critical mass of graduates and work with them to figure out how best to organize this group as a potent social force.

Turning Impossible Situations into Opportunities — Episode 058

Turning Impossible Situations into Opportunities — Episode 058

Today’s episode is a deep dive into how one impossible situation can inspire multiple opportunities within a community. We hear from Jessica Patterson, Community Outreach Coordinator for Groton Parks and Recreation in Connecticut and Officer Heather McClelland, Community Policing Officer for the Groton Police Department. These are two truly inspirational people who came together from two different public agencies to create a network of support for Alzheimer’s Caregivers as well as a Cognitive Safety and Awareness Program for their community.

What started as a way for Jessica to cope with her mother’s diagnosis of Alzheimer’s has turned into multiple programs and cross-department partnerships that are enriching an entire community and making it safer.

Tune into this episode to hear how this came to be and how “we are all in this together.”

EP 91 The Relation between Calligraphy and Music part 2

This week, meet my talented and Master of Musicalligraphy guest sitting in Paris, France. We talked about his love for calligraphy and the musicality of calligraphy. Let me know what you think.

To learn about him, you must listen or watch this episode and part 2 coming next week. A sensitive and bold soul. Bahman Panahi was born in Iran in 1967.

Youngest son of a large artistic and cultivated family he was born into the milieu of the arts and came into contact with music, painting, theater and calligraphy through the work of his brothers. From these arts he chose music and calligraphy for himself. In his opinion the former stands for the Iranian history, its culture and its civilization, the latter gives a spontaneous image of the Iranian creativity and its taste.

His constant preoccupation is the relation between these two artistic domains. He has obtained the Master certificate from the “Institute of Calligraphers of Iran” under great masters of calligraphy: "Amirkhany , Foradi and Kaboli" and started teaching in different cultural, artistic and academic centers from a very young age. In parallel he learned to play the “Tar” and “Setar” and deepened his musical knowledge with great masters of Persian classical music like Houshang Zarif,

Mohamad Reza Lotfi, Ataolah Zahed Shirazi. Bahman Panahi graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tehran University and continued his studies at Ecole des Beaux-arts, in Valanciennes and then Sorbonne in France toward a Ph.D. in visual arts. Since 1990 he has been involved with teaching courses, lectures, workshops, conferences, concerts and exhibitions in five continents.

In addition, he has been invited as a guest professor and distinguished artist to noted institutions such as Harvard University and Northeastern University in Boston, Science Po. in Paris and other institutions.

Bahman Panahi lives in Paris since 2002 and is actively engaged in his artwork globally.
