On today's episode we talk with Capt. Justin Leake of Panama City Inshore out of Panama City Beach, FL. and he gives a report on the inshore fishing before Ian started blowing. It sounds epic and I am noticing a trend about the fishing before these named storms. From now until the end of November the fishing will be fantastic, just be sure to avoid fishing during cold fronts and tropical weather events but the fishing before and after can be off the charts! Expect normal fall patterns otherwise, the fishing should be great!

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. He tells us about the epic fall fishing that is happening in the area. The fall bait run is in full effect and the fish are responding. Jordan also explains why the fishing is so good just before and just after hurricanes that enter into the Gulf of Mexico. We hear about a Colorado Elk trip as well & some of the near misses from the trip. If you're a hunter, you'll definitely want to listen until the end.

He gives us an update on the fishing in the Destin area and it sounds like the Fall fishing is underway. With Red Snapper getting a fall season and the pelagic species a little closer to shore it should make for some great opportunities. Capt Lionel also tells us about the redfish and their feeding habits as it relates to the moon phases, it sounds like something worth paying attention to. The fishing is good and getting better as long as there aren't any significant weather events in the area, the Fall bite is underway in Destin.

Its not there every day, but be sure to have proper intel before heading to the surf right now. Inshore, it sounds like as the cooler weather approaches things are going to keep getting better and all of the normal redfish spots are producing as expected. Once we have another cold snap or two, we should start seeing massive schools of redfish, so be on the lookout!

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Lionel James of Lion's Tale Adventures out of Destin, FL. He tells us about fly fishing for Amberjack & snapper on the nearshore reefs. It sounds like it is an awesome way to chase these fish that we usually target by dropping baits. Lionel likes to live chum them up to the surface where you can see them and cast to specific fish and add a sight fishing element to the fun. This presents a whole new challenge to fly anglers and I am a big fan of the idea, definitely on my short list of things to do on the water.

Not what we want to hear but sometimes the factors just don't come together in a way that fires the fish up. In fact, sometimes it does quite the opposite. The good news is that the Gulf changes constantly & with the change in seasons slowly beginning, I think there are some really good days on the water ahead.

We get an update on the surf fishing, they might be a little more shallow than you suspect & we get an update on the inshore and offshore fishery around Pensacola as well. Brant also tells us about an experience he had recently that answers the question: "Can you keep an illegal fish if it is going to die/is already dead when you catch it." This is an unfortunate reality to our sport, sometimes fish that are out of season or over/under sized don't make it. Or are in bad enough shape that when you release them, you know that you are just feeding all of the lazy predators on the reef. So as any good steward of the environment might wonder, why can't you just keep those fish? Brant talks to the FWC and gets an answer.

Since Scallop season has St Joe Bay pretty crowded, Jordan choses to fish in the Indian Pass & Apalachicola area this time of year. It also doesn't hurt that the Fall shrimp hatch is underway. We also talk to Jordan about a recent trip he took to Venice, LA to chase bull reds and monster triple tail. He tells us the strategy they used to find the fish and explained how that part of LA fishes a lot like his home water.

We assume that whatever currents pushed it out also brought in beautiful, clear water and really got the bite going. Pompano and whiting are eating sand fleas & the Spanish, bluefish, ladyfish, redfish, sharks and jacks are all along the beach feeding on blood minnows and other bait schools. It has turned on in a big way along the beach so grab your surf gear & sand flea rake and get after it if your heading to Pensacola this week!

Look for action up top or diving birds and that will let you know where to start. Justin also tells us about the Fall bait migration that happens and kicks off spectacular Fall fishing. The good news is that we think the bait migration has started but now the predator fish we want to catch just have to find them. During this transition time there are some great opportunities and it will only get better as water temperatures cool down.

There are also tons of ladyfish, bluefish & Spanish there as well so if you just want to catch something, the beaches are hard to beat right now. There are also an abundance of Mangrove Snapper being caught on inshore structure and the really big ones hold on offshore structure. The offshore and nearshore bite has been strong as well. Triggerfish are in season and this time of year you might also find a King Mackerel patrolling the wrecks. It is a great time of year to fish the Pensacola area!

The tricky part about catching keeper triggerfish is that there are so many of them and the smaller ones are more aggressive. It sounds like the nearshore and jetty fishing is a great way to fill your freezer right now with two of the best tasting fish that we have in the Gulf!
