    The Body in Tampa Bay

    The Body in Tampa Bay
Patrick Lee Mullins went missing after taking his boat out on Florida’s Braden River in 2013. His body was found over a week later in Tampa Bay, tied to a 25-pound anchor in four feet of water. His cause of death was a shotgun wound to the head, but no one could tell if he had inflicted the wound himself or if someone else had.

Stopping Gunshot Deaths from the Trauma Bay and Beyond with Mamta Swaroop, MD

Stopping Gunshot Deaths from the Trauma Bay and Beyond with Mamta Swaroop, MD

Teaching teens and adults across Chicago how to tie a tourniquet with a piece of clothing was not part of Mamta Swaroop’s job description as a trauma surgeon and Global Surgery Program Director at Northwestern. But she had seen too many people with gunshot wounds die, bleeding out before reaching the hospitalSo in 2017 she decided it was time to empower Chicago communities by training bystanders to be immediate responders. In this audio essay, she shares her story. A version of this essay was originally published in the Bulletin of The Royal College of Surgeons of England, a Royal College of Surgeons journal.

#123 - Bees, Syrup & Leeches in White Earth, Minnesota

This week, in White Earth, Minnesota, a simple trip into the woods to go "syrupin'" ends in a well liked guy, being found, face down in the mud. There are quite a few suspects, due to the family's overcrowded living conditions, but in the end, one person, who doesn't even live with the victim begins to stand out. But did he do it? Or, was he trying to get bank loans, to start a "leeching business", while the murder occurred? Help us untangle this mess!!

Along the way, we find out there is an awful lot that goes into making syrup, that leeches sound like a bad investment for a bank, and that nothing in rural Minnesota is what it seems!!
