Quiet Fires & Getting Gutsy In Midlife

EP 86: Are you curious about facing your biggest fears and self limiting beliefs? I am too old, this is too hard, everyone is watching me, or what if I failed? Are you craving and seeking more meaning, fulfillment and moments of bravery? What would it feel like to get out of your comfort zone? Have you tasted the joy of overcoming your fears? And, the “rush” of the win.  Are you ready to say yes to the midlife remix and put yourself first? Want to learn how to “exercise bravery” for new confidence and power in midlife? Then this episode is for you!

Join me, Dr. Sarah Milken in an inspiring and open conversation called “QUIET FIRE & GETTING GUTSY IN MIDLIFE”. My guest Dr. Leah Katz is a well-recognized clinical psychologist, author, and mother of two. She specializes in mental health issues among teenage girls and women. She wrote the book Gutsy Mindfulness Practices for Everyday Bravery (one of my personal favorites), and we are getting into all the details of her approach to depression and anxiety and what it takes to live a life that is fulfilling and deeply connected. I know what you’re thinking… sign me up!

    Some Highlights:

    • Quiet fires and wanting to feel seen
    • The power of letting go of “all-or-nothing” thinking
    • What is mindfulness and how can it help you to get “unstuck”
    • Creating small shifts in your daily life
    • It’s never too late to make a change in your life
    • You can grow your self-awareness and self-compassion (listen to find out how)
    • Growing and maturing with your partner in a marriage
    • There can be beauty in failure
    • Anxiety and perfectionism are about a craving for certainty
    • Respond to things and then make more intentional decisions based on that
    • The importance of being a person outside of your relationship

Looking forward to connecting with you! Here are some ways to connect with me!

    NOTABLE QUOTES:

“We have to learn the skills to have a healthy relationship when we’re younger … If you don’t know it, you’re just going to crash and burn; you’re just going to go tumbling down that bridge.”

“The hardest job you’ll ever have is being married.”

“Not only is it like not learning the skill to have a healthy relationship from the people that you witnessed growing up, but then you have all these unrealistic expectations of what a healthy relationship is. So it’s like, how are we supposed to succeed at this and be happy.”

“What we do as men many times is we’re not able to give our wives what they need. They need to know from us. It is their relational oxygen. They need to know what’s going on with us on the inside. They need to know our hopes, dreams, feelings, and emotions.”

“Your marriage is infinitely more important than any job or hobby.”

“All relationships are a risk, but they are never a waste.”

    “True wealth is in relationships.”

“Success is getting up one more time than I fall down.”

“Science shows we raise good kids through modeling … If you carve out a life for yourself and you’re committed to finding your own joy and contentment, there’s a good chance that you’re going to raise kids who will value the same thing.”

Small & Gutsy Features The Boston Bulldogs Running Club

The Boston Bulldogs Running Club is a true success story in every sense of the sentiment. Coach Mike Ferullo began this journey as an 8th-grade dropout, 15-year old drug user, hooked on heroin by age 17, in and out of detox, and sometimes jail until at age 22. From this experience, volunteering, and returning to finish his education, in 2015, he established the Boston Bulldogs Running Club for all those adversely affected by addiction.
