Between Strides: My Half-Marathon Adventure at Snow Canyon

Between Strides: My Half-Marathon Adventure at Snow Canyon

#081 - Get ready for a thrilling rollercoaster ride through exhilarating highs and challenging lows as I, Jake Bushman, recount my journey of running my second half marathon at the breathtaking Snow Canyon in St. George, Utah. Will I conquer the grueling 13.1 miles or succumb to the taxing trials of the course? Joined by my good friend, Paul Petersen, we explore this journey and much more, offering a deeper glimpse into my life beyond the podcast.

In a scintillating Q&A session, Paul dives into my personal and professional life, taking you on a journey from my high school days to my 25-year marriage and my long stint living in Vegas. We'll take you behind the scenes of race day, from the rush of starting line adrenaline to unexpected pit stops and the sweet taste of crossing the finish line. But it's not all about running; we also draw parallels between the marathon and the podcast, both journeys filled with unique experiences and amazing people.

In the final stretch, we reflect on the trials and triumphs of this adventure, drawing lessons that go beyond running. We share strategies to push through the most challenging moments and reveal how song lyrics and mantras can fuel our determination. I also express my heartfelt gratitude to you, the listeners, who inspire me to continue this podcast journey. With upcoming guests and your shared experiences, I promise to make each episode a memorable part of your journey. Remember, life is about the journey, not the destination, so let's continue this adventure together.

    That's Why It's Called Training

What is training?  How is it different from just "running"?  What does training look like and how does it help us?  What if my training doesn't "work"?

136 Outdoor Diary: How Do You Make Yourself Go Outside?

Even in summer in Alaska it can be hard to make yourself do things outside when inside life is calling or the outside isn’t exactly what you want it to be. So how do you get yourself out there?

In this episode of Humans Outside’s Outdoor Diary Amy talks through three situations she recently faced where she didn’t want to go outside, and thinks through what it takes to get out anyway.

    Some of the good stuff:

[:28] Deciding to make an effort

    [2:43] The Lost Lake Race

    [4:43] Worth it

[6:11] How do you take risks?

    A World Record Attempt

    A World Record Attempt
In this week's episode, Maggie interviews Sarah and Aileen Kearney. They are going to attempt to beat the world record for the mother and daughter combined time for a half marathon. As part of this challenge, they are raising money for the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/kearney-worldrecordattempt. I've also got news of another world record and, of course, the sorry plight of my own running, which is beating no world records at the moment.
