Halloween: The Original Story of Michael Myers

Halloween: The Original Story of Michael Myers

Trick..or treat.. or DIE! Journey through Halloween '78, Halloween 2, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers, and the 6th installment.. Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers as we take a deep dive into the original story of The Shape himself. We review every Halloween movie from the original timeline, plus we also briefly discuss the long lost tome- the Halloween novelization book by Curtis Richards, which fills in a ton of gaps in Michael's story in Halloween '78. Taking Shape: Developing Halloween From Script to Scream is also a huge recommend!

We begin with John Carpenter's 1978 accidental masterpiece ,'Halloween,' which took the world by storm, giving birth to the embodiment of evil, the Shape, the Boogeyman, Michael Myers himself.  We discuss the entire original story of Michael Myers as told by Halloween '78, Halloween 2, 3, 4, 5, and the Revenge of Michael Myers! We take a deep dive into the Haddonfield slasher, the mythos surrounding Michael and how the Shape was born, and the Halloween films, plus a ton of behind the scenes trivia, what could have been, and a lot more fun facts! Find out how Michael Myers became a titan of the American horror zeitgeist!

To 1981 we go & we have Halloween II (2) , directed ALMOST by David Lynch but ends up in the hands of Rick Rosenthal, screenplay by John Carpenter and Debra Hill, and after the original cut was viewed by the master himself, 11 + minutes were reshot by Carpenter and that gave us the theatrical version of the film.

Halloween 3: Season of the Witch famously omits Myers in favor of the original anthology idea, but after bombing at the box office our babysitter stalker was back in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)! The Boogeyman awakes on Halloween Eve with vengeance on his mind after hearing he has lineage still alive, 7 year old Jamie! Michael  returns to Haddonfield, following the true curve-ball of a story line from the 2nd installment of the Halloween franchise. Buckle your seatbelts, because it gets even weirder..

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989). The Shape returns to Haddonfield once more in the craziest installment yet, w/director Dominique Othenin-Girard taking Michael Myers to territory off the beaten path and into the great unknown- druids, cults, and the Thorn! DOG also was brought on for Halloween Kills (2021) as the AD, which is just one of the cool facts and trivia we explore in the Halloween franchise on this episode!

The finale of the original story of the '78 Michael Myers and Halloween... 1995's Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. Directed by Joe Chappelle we have the most insane entry in the entirety of the 13 movie Halloween franchise! The Cult of Thorn, the man in black, 2 VERSIONS of this movie, and Paul Rudd's cinematic debut all play a part in this wild ending to the original Michael Myer's story- don't miss it!

We walk you through the entire original story of the boogeyman himself, Michael Myers, starting in 1978 and ending up in 1995, uncovering facts, behind the scenes antics, why and how each movie was made, and just what drives the infamous Babysitter Murderer! We also get into fun Halloween trivia, this is truly a deep dive into one of the most iconic franchises in American cinematic history- come along with us horror, Halloween, and spooky season fans! Impress your friend group with knowing EVERYTHING about the OG Michael Myers!  From the influence of Hitchcock on John Carpenter, to the behind-the-scenes disagreements on where the story should go, and even some extremely fun what-could-have-beens in directing and casting! But truthfully we navigate through the story of the scariest on-screen slasher of all time and get to the heart (or lack thereof) behind his story.

Michael Myers became an American horror fairy tale, journey with us to find out how.

    2009 (Part 2)

    2009 (Part 2)

It's time for one of those huge episodes. Well, it's a four parter anyways. 2009 was a decent year for horror movies, well as long as your don't mind the French extreme, torture porn, the found footage explosion, j horror and a glut of remakes. The highs are really high & the lows are absolute trash. But, what do I think was the very greatest horror movie that came out during 2009? Well, here we have the top 10. The worst 10. A slew of also rans. Some awesome mates. Some special guests. Several pints of beer and a 6+ hour running time split over 4 episodes. This is 2009, A Year In Horror.

It's a pretty long journey this one, part 4 of 4 in fact. I am going to give you the time codes below so if you don't want spoilers then, please, avert your eyes.

Below are the timecodes for all the different segments and my guest links. Feel free to let me know where you think I got it wrong or right and of course stay safe out there & I'll see you next month.

    • 0.34 - Also Rans (Part 2)
    • 11.31 - Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars (w/ Dave Ingram)
    • 47.02 - Triangle
    • 55.54 - {REC}2 (w/ Niki Jones)

    41. Halloween II (1981)

    41. Halloween II (1981)

This week the boys are back to round out the original Halloween trilogy with Halloween II, More of the Night He Came Home. After falling off a balcony and being shot 6 times in the heart, Michael Myers continues his murderous rampage through the once quiet town of Haddonfield to finish what he started. With Dr. Loomis close behind, Michael follows Laurie Strode to the hospital where she once again faces off with the silent killer and this time, nothing will stand in his way from getting to her.

Bad Days in Haddonfield Ep. 14: Halloween Wrap Up

Bad Days in Haddonfield Ep. 14: Halloween Wrap Up

This is the end...of Bad Days in Haddonfield. Bryan Dressel, Matt Dykes, Joel DeWitte, and Ryan Lootens end their deep dive into the Halloween Franchise with a series wrap up, going over favorite moments and more throughout each of the films. They also talk a bit about the next series coming up and maybe a confirmation of a future season. Don't waste another second reading this and jump right in to this jam-packed episode!

Bad Days in Haddonfield Ep. 13: Halloween Ends (2022)

Bad Days in Haddonfield Ep. 13: Halloween Ends (2022)

Welcome to another pulse-pounding episode of "Bad Days in Haddonfield." This week the Binge Buddies, comprised of Bryan Dressel, Matt "Zombie Dog Giggles" Dykes, Joel "Captain Obvious" DeWitte,  and Ryan "Comedy Central" Lootens come together to talk about "Halloween Ends," which at the very least is better than "Kills." That said, it's a little of a different movie than one might expect given the advertising. Start "listening" to "see" for yourself. Oh wait.

Bad Days in Haddonfield Ep. 12: Halloween Kills (2020)

Bad Days in Haddonfield Ep. 12: Halloween Kills (2020)

This week on Bad Days in Haddonfield, Bryan Dressel, Matt "Zombie Dog Baby Face" Dykes, Joel "Tater Tot" DeWitte,  and Ryan "Tootsie Pop" Lootens sit down and absolutely murder the second film in the modern Halloween trilogy: Halloween Kills. Is there something that prevents the second films in this franchise from being any good? Is there some unwritten law that says the second films have to be set in a hospital? Who knows! Either way, there be fun discussion ahead.

Bad Days in Haddonfield Ep. 10: Halloween II (2009)

Bad Days in Haddonfield Ep. 10: Halloween II (2009)

This week on Bad Days in Haddonfield the Binge Buddies, comprised of Bryan Dressel, Matt "Zombie Dog Stu Macher" Dykes, and Joel "Amber Freeman" DeWitte, tackle the sequel to Rob Zombie's "Halloween," aptly titled "Halloween 2." It's a natural progression to Zombie's interpretation of the characters, but that doesn't necessarily mean its any good. It's not boring, at least!

NOTE: This is the last Binge Buddies of the year. We will be back later in January with the final Halloween trilogy, starting with...Halloween.

Screenwriter Matthew Chernov Interview (Shark Swarm, Hard Ride to Hell)

On this episode we had the pleasure of chatting with screenwriter and journalist Matthew Chernov. Matthew is yet another Rhode Island native who is an absolute horror fanatic. We were able to talk to him about his some of his local horror roots as well as his experience as a screenwriter and what it's been like to see his works adapted to film. As a journalist, Matthew has written a number of horror-based top-10 lists which was fun to delve into, even though PVD Horror was not part of his top horror podcasts list...We hope you can sit back and enjoy this laid back conversation with a fellow horror hound!
