PSFK Earnings Call Podcast: Hanesbrands - HBI

PSFK Earnings Call Podcast: Hanesbrands - HBI

On the recent Hanesbrands earnings call held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, CEO Stephen Bratspies introduced less than satisfying results with clear candor. He cited a problematic sales environment, particularly within the U.S. Activewear market and in Australia, as contributing factors to performance that did not meet both quarterly and annual expectations.

Bratspies's explanation highlighted a volatile retail landscape. The acceleration of market demands, resultant of COVID-19's transformational impact on consumer behavior, was acknowledged as a significant factor. He further emphasized the emerging socio-political complexities and an intensifying competition as additional tributaries to the turbulent trading year.

Bratspies, during the earnings call, was unambiguous about the challenges experienced by Hanesbrands. He underscored the necessity for the business to adapt swiftly to unfolding demographic advancements and market trends. His focus remained on the need to realign business strategies to be more customer-centric in an attempt to harness the evolving consumer preferences.

While these strategies could hold potential for instilling adaptability and resilience within the business fabric of Hanesbrands, it's crucial that investors cast a realistic eye towards the future. As evidenced by the CEO's remarks on the earnings call, the challenges presented by the present market environment are both real and extensive. The non-meeting of expectations this quarter is a potent signal that Hanesbrands may have to navigate a steep path forward. In conclusion, the ability of the company to positively respond to these challenges and successfully meet consumer preferences will indeed be the true test of its long-term sustainability.

    Oral History: Matthew Quayle

    Oral History: Matthew Quayle

Matt Quayle joined CNBC as an intern while he was still in college. He knew next to nothing about business and investing, journalism, or television production. But he recognized an opportunity when it arose, and he seized it.

Perhaps an established broadcast journalist could have accomplished all that Matt has achieved at CNBC over a span of nearly 30 years. Still, it’s likely that his fresh perspective on creating and producing financial news for television allowed him to be the extraordinary innovator that he became.

Matt was the co-creator of CNBC’s “Squawk Box” and “Squawk on the Street,” among other programs, and he continues to help define and transform business and financial television.

This oral history, conducted by Dean Rotbart, editor-in-chief of NewsLuminaries.com, was recorded on December 10, 2019.

Courtney Dauwalter Sets the Bar at Moab 200- 238 miles in 57 HOURS !!!

2017 was the inaugural year of the mis-named Moab 200, a 238-mile endurance race in the desert of southern Utah.  Along with the 98 gritty people that finished this race, Courtney Dauwalter, stunned observers with a first-place finish.....ahem.....nearly TEN HOURS before the second place finisher!  Fellow finishers, Cameron Hanes and our own Don Freeman (Triple Crown of 200-milers recipient), help The Nation understand how she did this only one month after finishing sixth (first place female) at Run Rabbit Run 100 & two weeks after a first place at The Bear Chase 50.

Cameron Hanes Aims for 240 Miles

Outdoorsman, best-selling author, adventurer and runner, Cameron Hanes joins The Nation to talk about his passions: bow hunting big game around the world and endurance running.  He completed the Bigfoot 200 in 2016 and is a couple weeks away from the start of the inaugural Moab 240 mile endurance run.  He has a unique complimentary sport of bowhunting.  We ask him to compare the two sports and what he has learned from participating at a high level.

EPISODE 80: On this episode of Gritty Bowmen, Aron Snyder and I hang out with Cameron Hanes and Joe Rogan. Joe Rogan is a podcaster, UFC commentator, stand-up comedian and HUNTER. Joe’s podcast, the Joe Rogan Experience, is a powerhouse. Joe has been an avid hunter Since his first hunting trip with Steven Rinella on the MeatEater show, titled First Timers, Montona Mule Deer, which aired in April 2013. On his podcast, Rogan has interviewed such people as Jim Shockey, Steven Rinellla, Tim Burnett, Remi Warren, and more. Joe has a massive non-hunting audience that loves his show. And he’s been able to use his platform to educate the non-hunting community about how hunting is conservation… about how hunting saves wildlife and wild places. He’s a gifted interviewer, entertainer, and with the help of his good friend Cameron Hanes, I’ve no doubt he’s become a skilled hunter as well… as long as he doesn’t talk to much… so i’ve heard from Cameron.

I don’t think Cameron needs an introduction to the Gritty Community… but here goes anyway for you new hunters or for those of you who live under a rock. Cameron Hanes is a bowhunting fool. And he trains year-round, always pushing his body to failure and beyond. He grew up “getting it done” on public land with elk and deer and bear… today, he continues to inspire both hunters and would-be hunters everyday.

In the middle of this podcast somehwere, we lost a camera angle for a couple minutes--like 10 minutes. Cameron is cut-off the screen… sorry Cam.

This is a fun podcast--you’ve got Joe Rogan, Cameron Hanes, and Aron Snyder, all on the show.  It was good time.

EPISODE 79: On this episode of Gritty Bowmen, Aron Snyder and I hang out with Cameron Hanes at the ATA show in Kentucky. Prior to this event, I had never met Cameron Hanes. I’ve read his books. I’ve watched his blacktail films and some of his hunts with Eastmans. I’ve seen him and South Cox chase high country mule deer. I’ve seen him hunt giant brown bear with dear friend, Roy Roth. I’ve watched Cameron stalk cape buffalo in Australia and on and on. And of course, I’ve seen Cameron’s social media game, which is pretty strong. But I’ve never met the guy. You hear and see things… And I can’t help but admire his drive and passion for fitness… and his love of the outdoors and of the bowhunting life… but I had never actually sat down and talked to him. And much like my first meeting with Aron Snyder… I found Cameron to be a super cool dude. Easy to talk to. Genuine. And funny. Much like my own hunting buddies.

I was able to hit the local Crossfit gym in Kentucky with Cameron thanks to our mutual friend, Dan Staton, owner of Elk Shape. Dan lead a room full of hunters from the ATA show in a great team workout. Cameron was in his element. He loves fitness. And It was obvious. After the workout, Cameron took a group of us out to breakfast and there we laughed and swapped hunting stories and I couldn’t help... but think how it felt just like elk camp with my own buddies. At the end, he paid the bill. And I walked away from the experience thinking, I just like hunters. They’re cool people. And there is an instant brotherhood among us as long as we are able to keep our massive egos in check and be positive.
