Jessica Gallo : [Harp] Sounds for Healing

Jessica Gallo : [Harp] Sounds for Healing

I first heard Jessica Gallo playing alongside another harpist on a dark, rainy winter night in December.  It was my first sound bath experience, and it did not disappoint.   It was at the height of a very low time for me, and I was feeling a deep need in my body for calm and stillness-almost hibernation?

Jessica is a professional musician, and a Certified Music Practitioner.  She creates beautiful environments for people to relax their body, unlace tension and stress, and receive healing balm through harp music.   Her work can be seen during the day at hospice clinics, and Critical Care and Oncology Units at local hospitals.

Music is an important balm for something that can't be cured, but can be healed for a time . It helps us process feelings and sort through emotion.  It can have a positive physical reaction towards healing.
In this episode we talk about the beauty of music as a tool for healing.
Listen in as she speaks to the difference of CMP vs Music Therapist, the relationship of practitioner to patient during a time of suffering, creating space for a sound bath, and some suggestions for calming music to speak directly to our whole bodies-soul, spirit, mind, senses.

Songs of the Angels (with Peter Sterling)

Songs of the Angels (with Peter Sterling)

Peter Sterling is an award-winning harpist who began to play after a series of life-changing angelic encounters in the canyons of Sedona, Arizona, in the early 1990s. His heartfelt and celestial harp music has touched the hearts and souls of people worldwide, with many listeners reporting beautiful visions, angel encounters, and even miraculous healings while listening to Peter’s heavenly music.

In this episode, Peter describes his personal journey of discovering the divine music of the angels as he explored Sedona’s Red Rock outback canyons. While he explains that angels taught him how to play and produce the music, this discussion goes well beyond the songs to how vital music is to understanding our true nature and can facilitate a vibrant connection with Spirit. Peter adds that in addition to music, having an attitude of trust, surrender, and letting go will help to elevate our vibrational levels to feel the energy of our chakras, opening of our third eye, experience visions, interactions with angels, and out-of-body experiences.

In addition to music and sound, Peter suggests there is a second revolution of hallucinogenic drug use, similar to the 50s and 60s, but this time in guided and controlled settings. Psychedelic substances like ketamine, psilocybin mushrooms, cannabis, as well as MDMA (ecstasy) may be able to help people heal from PTSD, abuse, and trauma. They also may help in elevating a person’s consciousness to achieve deep spiritual connections.*

For more information about Peter, visit his website, or access his videos, music, and book, Hearing the Angels Sing, which includes 70 minutes of Peter’s heavenly music.

Yolanda Kondonassis, Part 1: One of the World's Celebrated and Preeminent Harp Soloists and Educators

Yolanda Kondonassis is one of the world’s premier classical harpists, and is widely regarded as today’s most recorded classical harpist. She has won a Grammy Award for her recording of the Jennifer Higdon Harp Concerto (which she commissioned) and has appeared as a soloist with many top orchestras. In addition, she has published several books, including a children’s book. She is the head of the harp department at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

In Part 1, I first ask Yolanda to talk about her experience of soloing with the New York Philharmonic at the age of 18. We then discuss her beginnings as a musician and how she has managed her career through the years. To finish up Part 1, we use the Jennifer Higdon Harp Concerto commission as an example of how a major commission is brought to life.

    Mikaela Davis

    Mikaela Davis

Welcome to Roadcase!!  Mikaela Davis is a classically trained harpist with a gorgeous voice who performs with her band, Southern Star.  Her 2018 debut album, Delivery, was produced by Grammy-winner John Congleton and is a super-groovy collection of songs, and we're pleased to report that a new album is due for release later this year, along with a new live album as well.  Mikaela has also been incorporating Grateful Dead covers into her live set for quite some time now, and her Tiny Desk appearance accompanying Bob Weir and Wolf Bros is epic and extraordinary.  She has been embraced in a unique way by the jam band community and rightly so, but Mikaela and Southern Star have a new and unique vibe that transcends categorization into any jam band category, and Mikaela's gentle and easy-going vibe makes her story even more intriguing.  So hop aboard the Roadcase bus to learn what's up with harpist and extraordinary vocalist Mikaela Davis.  It's gonna be a great ride!!

    Tara Minton

    Tara Minton

The stunning harp of Tara Minton begins this episode, as the harpist and I discuss her latest album and the joy of working with musicians such as here duo partner bassist Ed Babar and producer, bassist and arranger Geoff Gascoyne.

On Two For the Road, we hear Tara and Ed in their own contribution to the the Great American Songbook and the modern British jazz canon. Gascoyne and Babar's contributions are evident and this is a wonderful album that is definitely on my 2022 favourites list, even at this early stage of the year.

Thanks to Tara for allowing me to use tracks from the album alongside our conversation.

Music has always been a huge part of Kate Targett-Adams’ life. She started playing the Celtic harp as a child and it has been a lifelong passion. Cooking is also another passion of Kate’s and she made it to the finals of Master Chef when she was a young girl. Eventually, she had to chose between her love of music and cooking when deciding her career path. Music won over and Kate has excelled in her career as a singer, songwriter and harpist. She has many performed at many illustrious events, playing for dignitaries, celebrities and at international leaders across the globe. She is a celebrity in her own right, particularly in China where she sings many of her songs in Mandarin and wins the audience over with her ethereal voice, her talent, and her beauty. Kate has also established a company called Super Style Asia, where she teaches etiquette classes and personal branding to people from all walks of life. This all began when Kate was asked to teach etiquette to the Miss Universe China contestants. Kate has expanded her business into etiquette for any occasion and her aim is to help people embrace a “code for polite behavior” whilst she considers the cultural norms and traditions of the people she is working with. Kate also teaches Ceroc dance and has helped many people create their wedding dances or just have some fun with dance classes for all. Kate has shared some of her beautiful music in this podcast which is a real treat for our listeners.
