October 2023 Astrology Forecast: At A Crossroads

October 2023 Astrology Forecast: At A Crossroads

We're continuing our monthly astrology series and looking at the astrology of October 2023. HOW ARE WE ALREADY IN OCTOBER???

The theme for this month is "At A Crossroads" - so we're breaking down the idea of "crossroads" in some really intricate ways, because it's a common theme in mythology and folklore across many cultures. October is basically like one giant crossroads moment. Where will you choose to go from here?

We're not going to sugarcoat it: October has a lot going on. You might say it'll feel pretty "heated" because the "Via Combusta" (AKA the "fiery road") is getting activated by a ton of planetary alignments. We're telling you what the Via Combusta means and how it's being activated throughout the month. Between two eclipses (a New Moon Eclipse in Libra and a Full Moon Eclipse in Taurus), five (count them, five!) planets changing signs, and Pluto finally ending its long retrograde...there's a lot of cosmic action going on and we're ready to share it all with you.

How are you feeling about October? Are there any celestial events or astrological alignments that you're particularly eager to experience?

P.S. RATE US 5 STARS PLEASE! IT HELPS SO MUCH!

    93. Madison Nees: The Art of Radical Aliveness

What is Radical Aliveness? How can we explore the principles of Radical Aliveness in the laboratory space of our lives? How might being in a group process help us with exploring our deep feelings?

Being in conversation with my friend and teacher Madison Nees is always a profound experience for me. I'm excited for you to listen in and to explore this alive, glowing, curious space we co-created.

My first conversation with Madison for Healing The Spirit (Ep. 22 Dancing in The Underworld) was recorded about a year ago, right before the first run of her offering, Katabasis: A Journey to Aliveness.

This time, Madison and I met at the crossroads. I’m currently at the end of a yearlong journey with my offering, Astrology as Praxis, and Madison is about to re-enter the field of Katabasis for its second cohort.

The principles of Radical Aliveness guided our conversation. The principles are:

    • Cultivating a Non-Shaming Heart and Attitude
    • Knowing I Don’t Know
    • Welcoming Multiple Perspectives
    • Being Willing to be Changed
    • Saying YES to Everything

If you're curious about Madison's work, this event coming up on Sunday is great place to start: An Introduction to Radical Aliveness.

    Here's Madison's bio:

Madison Nees is a human, counselor, artist, and guide. My practice focuses on the intersection of ecology, ritual and somatics. I have worked in the addiction and trauma treatment industry since 2015. My own journey includes healing from substance use, anorexia nervosa, loss of culture and self. When I began my journey, I did not understand that the pull to somatics was a call of my ancestors. I was being pulled to heal all the things my mother could not and ultimately lost her life avoiding. I was being pulled to feel the things my Grandmother had no language for.

My body knew the language however, and it spoke in illness, pains, aches and rage. It also spoke the language of held grief and aloneness. During this process, I discovered gifts hidden beneath these repressed emotions. These gifts were the sensations. The gifts were the rivers of grief leading me home to myself. They were also the intuition and creativity of my lineage. I always tried to “do” something with the emotions but my healing progressed the more I simply sat with them. Instead of trying to push them away, I wondered what would happen if I let them grow. They grew into my practice today.

You can sign up for Madison's newsletter on Madison's website, and follow Madison's work on Instagram @ritual_body.  Check out Madison's exciting new six-month journey, Katabasis, which will begin on Sep 17, 2023. You can set up a call with Madison if you're curious here. Madison will also be hosting An Introduction to Radical Aliveness on Sunday, Aug 27, 2023.

Asterian astrology is a form of Eastern sidereal astrology that was re-created by Jade Sol Luna, using the ancient Greco-Roman system. BTW 80: Art, Magick, and the Imagination with Robert Allen

BTW 80: Art, Magick, and the Imagination with Robert Allen

Where is the realm of Hecate?  In the liminal spaces, the place where the imagination and the material world meet. So says Robert Allen, author of the forthcoming book "Imago," about what's really going in the magician's mission of astral projection. Weaving together strands from his background in painting, Ceremonial Magic, German Tanz Theatre, physical theater, phenomenology and the philosophy of images, Amanda and Robert discuss the relationship between art and magic, and how the imagination really can change the world. The images of the tarot are bottomless pools into the void, offering us opportunities to travel between the worlds. We're especially thrilled to share this episode with you because Robert Allen is one of Amanda's dearest teachers, she's been studying with him for years and is so excited to share his work with you.

    22. Madison Nees: Dancing in The Underworld

    22. Madison Nees: Dancing in The Underworld

What happens when we allow ourselves to learn to dance with the deep, gritty, dirty parts of ourselves? What does it mean to claim that we are artists of our own lives? How do we work with the sensations of our bodies to honor the full range of our humanity?

In this deeply electric conversation, my guest is Madison Nees. I met Madison when Madison gave a rich, powerful talk about cultivating a relationship of inquiry and curiosity with the body - and I instantly knew I wanted to work with Madison. Our conversation is centered around Madison's practice and upcoming offering, Katabasis. We discussed what it means to be an artist, the connection between creation and destruction, how somatics are innate to us as human beings, and how diving into our inner underworld can help us find our own leadership. We also spoke about what ancestors meant to Madison and how Madison's ancestral practice has been shifting.

Madison's reflections are poignant and deeply rooted in both Madison's personal and professional practices. The spaces Madison holds reflect a sincere commitment to the non-expert model. They inspire participants to explore their own autonomy and interconnection. I'm honored to share this space and this conversation with Madison.

    Here’s Madison’s bio:

Are We Destroying Bad Parts of Ourselves? - Question 0044

Are We Destroying Bad Parts of Ourselves? - Question 0044

Welco ____... HEYYYY IT'S THE LUNAR GODDASS!  Good morning, I hope you are having a wonderful day withing the Scheming Mind Palace.  My True Party King always introduced me last so I'm butting in at the start so you understand that I, a She/WOW, will no longer be sidelined! ... Time for me to take some laughing gas before I surrender it all to the true Lunar Goddess, Hekate.  In this episode, we are also joined by Flash Harry,  Azula, and Vagabon as we each offer our addictions to the Holy Spirit, Hekate.  She has many names and faces but what remains consistent is her domain over liminality.  Just as Hekate guided Persephone out of the Underworld, we ask for the Mind Palace to be relocated from NYC to somewhere South.  So join us in this ceremony with candle burning, language learning, and Tarot Card discerning.  I hope that our ceremony with Hekate inspires you to offer your own addictions if you feel stuck at a Crossroads.

How the HEK can we Praise HEKATE? - Question 0043 - Scheming Mind Palace

How the HEK can we Praise HEKATE? - Question 0043 - Scheming Mind Palace

How the HEK can we ever praise Her enough?  That is a common feeling that we experience when we come into contact with such a divine spirit.  When I felt her presence, I humbly offered to entertain her within the Mind Palace Oasis!  I could sense the youthful laughter of her maiden side as she enjoyed the party.  Her maternal side comforted me and began to teach me some important basic information about my journey.  Her crone side gifted me the insight to conjure up powerful spells to assist in facilitating my free will.  Her final phase, the corpse, humiliated me, made me feel impotent, incapable of inspiring.  Then, the maiden phase returned once again to uplift me.

Through that whirlwind of emotions, I learned from her that our modern interpretation of Hekate as the 3 in 1 is helpful to explain her power to those less familiar.  It is incomplete as it does not fully describe the reposition of her cycle.  In this question, I suggest the hypothesis that the 3 in 1 is a linear interpretation, whereas the 4 in 1 is cyclical.  Just like the phases of the moon or the female period, she has a cycle.  I am fully aware that the 4 in 1 hypothesis is also incomplete, Hekate has infinite faces for her infinite phases.  I believe that she is also the Corpse because it breaks people’s understanding of who the goddess of witchcraft can be.

BTW 50: 7 of Pentacles – Practice More Failure! with guest Flora Pacha

When the 7 of Pentacles comes up in a reading it's a sign that we’re worried about all the ways we might fail. But the 7 of Pentacles offers us an opportunity to turn failure into an act of rebellion and … pleasure.

In this episode we discuss the relationship between the 7 of Pentacles and the Chariot card; its correspondence to Saturn in Taurus; how 7s usually portend and initiation of some kind; and analyze it all through the lens of Jack Halberstam's glorious book, THE QUEER ART OF FAILURE. We also go into a discussion of the relationship of the 7 of Pentacles to gardening; how plants teach you about love and loss; abuelita knowledge; how to recognize when a plant wants to work with you; creating refuges; how fungi create networks of intelligence; and what we should do if we know the world is ending tomorrow.

Our guest this week is queer artist, herbalist, and plant lover Flora Pacha, previously known as La Loba Loca, host of the WildWeeds Podcast, teacher of feminist brujeria workshops, keeper of pigs, and tender of lands. We love them and we can’t wait to introduce you! Join us.

Questions to ask yourself if you're worried you're failing:

    • by whose standards am I failing?
    • who benefits from my believing myself a failure?
    • who benefits if I love myself more in all my failure? Truly, like which groups of people or beings benefit from your resistance to imposed notions of success?
    • how can you throw your failure back in the face of the status quo, or whomever it is that says that you’re failing? Like truly, what would it look like to thumb your nose?
    • ask yourself, how can I open up a dialogue here, instead of operating on a dominator model?

CURRENT WORKSHOPS  - ACE OF PENTACLES: ABUNDANCE MAGICK

Abundance is already present, but remembering that can be a challenge in a culture that’s modeled on scarcity. True abundance includes rest, love, nourishment, inspiration, security, and pleasure. In this workshop we will establish a new relationship to abundance, inspired by the natural systems of the earth and the wisdom tradition of the tarot.

    This workshop includes:

    • Invocation to call in abundance whenever you want or need to
    • A beautiful PDF including special correspondences, FAQs, deities, a reference list and more
    • A tarot spread for abundance
    • 3 easy abundance rituals for daily use (or whenever you need)
    • 1 expansive ritual done in the live workshop to call abundance into your life right now
    • An abundance meditation you can use whenever you need to get into that state of flow
    • And so much more!

Anyone can join this workshop but subscribers to our coven at the Jupiter level receive the workshop with the cost of membership.  If you're buying as a one off, receive 20% off your purchase if you buy before 9/6/21. CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT MORE.

BTW 48: Circe, Goddess of Witches? with guest Nick Dickinson

BTW 48: Circe, Goddess of Witches? with guest Nick Dickinson

Circe is the first witch mentioned in the literature of the classical world. Daughter of the Sun, and the ocean nymph Perse, Circe is the Lady of the Beasts, wielder of wands, knower of plants, both poisonous and medicinal, and is queer AF.  She's a goddess of secrets and necromancy (she can communicate with the dead). Her familiar is the hawk, so if you see one, recognize that Circe might be present.

In this episode we discuss the beautiful demi-goddess Circe in all her glory with one of her priests, Nick Dickinson. He tells us how to invoke her, and why Circe is a goddess all witches need to know. He also shares his methods for lifting the evil eye, and breaking curses from his family lineage of Greek Folk Magic. Do you know how the evil eye gets transmitted? You might have done it yourself by accident. Find out what it is and how to lift it by tuning in!

We are absolutely in love with Circe, her wisdom, her wileyness, her complexity, her mastery. We seriously could have talked with Nick for YEARS! We're so excited to share this episode with you, dear listeners. You're going to love it!

A bit more about our guest... Nick Dickinson is Headmistress of Circe Academy through The Cauldron Black in Salem MA, and a professional witch and witchcraft educator with over 35 years of experience working with clients and students in both public and private settings. Ordained and initiated in a variety of tantric yoga traditions (Mahayana Buddhism), and a teacher of yoga teachers and psychics, his classes and workshops are influenced by the intersection of classical yoga theory and modern witchcraft practice. Operating through a multidimensional animist lens with a focus on Greek folklore, Nick’s content welcomes all traditions at all levels and can be approached in a purely secular way.

NOTE: Don't forget to pre-order the new Taschen book, Witchcraft...

...we mention in the episode edited by Pam Grossman and Jess Hundley. A spellbinding journey through the global history of witchcraft, the third volume in The Library of Esoterica follows this magickal tradition from its ancient roots to its modern incarnations. Through more than 400 artworks, and revelatory essays and interviews with modern practitioners. Amanda's got an essay in it about witches of mythology, and it features many other beloved friends of Between the Worlds, such as Gaby Herstik and Edgar Fabian Frias. You won't want to miss it! Wesley Enoch and Kylie Bracknell on language, culture and connection

Wesley Enoch and Kylie Bracknell on language, culture and connection

Taking on Macbeth is a mammoth task for any director but try translating and performing it entirely in Noongar. In our next conversation between legends of Australian theatre, Wesley Enoch meets Noongar actor, director and translator Kylie Bracknell (Kaarljilba Kaardn).

Also, we hear a scene from the world premiere of York at Black Swan State Theatre Company and visit performer Paul Capsis and director Chris Drummond in rehearsal for Brink's music-rich adaptation of The Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder.
