    Flourish: Breathe Again

    Flourish: Breathe Again

In this episode, Dominic gives an update about the non-profit, Pursuing Faith, and an opportunity to minister to Ukrainian refugees.

He then unpacks 2 Peter 1 as a roadmap towards a flourishing life. Peter writes: “Make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.”

The first gift on this list of virtues is ‘goodness.’ But what does Peter mean by that? What does that look like when our soul’s are fatigued or gasping for air? Dominic suggests that adding to our faith goodness means intentionally creating space for intimacy with God.

Advent Series: Part 1 - Restoring Hope // Pastor Christian Bonham

"And in despair, I bowed my head... 'There is no peace on earth,' I said; 'For hate is strong, And mocks the song Of peace on earth, good-will to men!'" These words were written 157 years ago in the poem "Christmas Bells" (which later became the Christmas song "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day"), but the despair and longing in that stanza sound like something many in our world feel even today. Many, like the poet, wonder if hope has really died or if God has forgotten about us. Today we begin our countdown to Christmas and see that God not only remembers us but went out of His way to establish hope for us in the most unexpected way!

A Response to Depression – Dr. Todd Stryd

A Response to Depression – Dr. Todd Stryd

With Christmas around the corner, does it seem like everyone else is oozing holiday cheer? While the rest of the world is wrapped up in red and green, you’re the only one feeling blue? December is presented as a month of celebration and belonging – a time of happiness, when everything goes right. But so often that is just not the case. For many people, the holidays intensify feelings of loneliness, grief, or depression. And instead of feeling happy, we’re reminded of the way things are not, of losses or of the things we’ve hoped for that haven’t happened yet. This week on the podcast, Crystal is talking about depression with Dr. Todd Stryd, a faculty member and counseling coordinator at the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation. Listen to their encouraging conversation to hear how depression is approached in Scripture and how we can respond this Christmas season.

*Joni and Friends was founded in 1979 by Joni Eareckson Tada who in a diving accident was left a quadriplegic at 17 years old. Ministry began as Tada, joined by friends around her kitchen table, responded to letters she received from people with disabilities in search of support. Over the past 40 years, the ministry has grown to serve thousands of people impacted by disability worldwide: Joni and Friends has delivered more than 150,000 wheelchairs and Bibles through Wheels for the World and provided Christian care to 63,000 special needs family members through Family Retreats. The organization also equips individuals and churches with disability ministry training and provides higher education courses through the Christian Institute on Disability. Depression: The Truth and a Cure

Depression: The Truth and a Cure
Most of us accept depression as a fact of life. In 2011, one-fourth of the U.S. population was on anti-depressants. I'm certain that the number is much higher now, but I couldn't find current statistics. The pharmaceutical industry is doing great, but people aren't. Most psychiatrists won't even treat people with anything but a prescription. It's easier and more lucrative to just medicate. The problem is, people aren't getting better. Worse, they believe that their biochemistry has caused the problem, which prevents them from seeking the help they need to actually heal their depression and their lives. Current studies do not prove cause and effect; they only show correlation. Unless we do biochemical analyses on newborns and follow them throughout life, we cannot prove which came first, the depression or the imbalance. To sentence someone to a life of anti-depressants, keeps them in the illusion that they are happy. Please join us Thursday to hear the truth about depression and a cure
