Segment: Pornsak Pichetshote Interview - The Good Asian #1 - May 5th artist Alexandre Tefenkgi

    1. Thanks for coming on the AIPT Comics podcast! The Good Asian is out this May and Nathan and I can’t be any more excited, in part because we adore Film Noir. Can you talk about your relationship to noir and why the genre speaks to you?
    2. What was the onus on kicking off this project, was it the genre, the Chinese Exclusion Act and how it fit into the story, something else?
    3. Was there anything you were surprised by or that Alexandre Tefenkgi went above and beyond with?
    4. How do you approach staying creative while quarantined? Do you have a set routine?
    5. The Good Asian is rooted deep in American history, but it also reads like a classic noir. What led you to combining the two? - i think we covered this.
    6. From hard-boiled dialogue to shadowy street corners, what do you think is the key to creating the right atmosphere for noir? Color artist lee loughridge
    7. It’s clear that a lot of research went into telling this story. Did you discover anything in your research that genuinely surprised you?
    8. Something that made reading the first issue of The Good Asian so strong for me, was how it captures a lo tof the hidden American history we don’t talk about. If readers wanted to explore more about this kind of history, do you have any resources fans might pick up?
    9. There are so many great indie publishers today, more than ever, what made Image Comics the right fit for this project?
    10. Are there any other books you’d like to discuss today?

    Segment: Cullen Bunn Interview - Shadowman #1 - April 28th Jon Davis-Hunt

    1. Congratz on Shadowman, I understand speaking to Dennis Hopeless (twice now on this podcast!) Shadowman has been in the works for some time?
    2. At this point it’s safe to say you’re a horror maestro, with Harrow County as just one of your works that’s a shoe in for classic, you have Eden at AfterShock coming in May, how has writing great horror for so long shaped your vision of Shadowman?
    3. How do you approach staying creative while quarantined? Do you have a set routine?
    4. When you approach a comics script, what are some goals you try to achieve by book's end?
    5. Jon-Davis Hunt has been killing it for years, what made him right for this project?
    6. Has there been any panels or pages Hunt’s done that topped anything you could imagine?
    7. What is something a Shadowman comic MUST DO to be a Shadowman comic?
    8. It’s still early yet, but Dennis Hopeless pointed out an event tying into X-O Manowar was in the cards, is that still a possibility?
    9. Your Punk Mambo miniseries was a blast - any chance we’ll be seeing her turn up in the near future?
    10. You've been making comics for many years, congratz on that, if this were a 100 meter dash, where are you now, what were your record-beating moments (still on the metaphor), and what goals do you see yourself at 75, 95, and 100 meters?
    11. Are there any other books you’d like to discuss today?

Segment: Interview - Josh Williamson - Infinite Frontier, Robin, Future State: Justice League, Nailbiter Returns

    1. Josh, you’re very busy, with Robin coming as well as Infinite Frontier, and Nailbiter Returns, and Future State Justice League... is this the busiest year for you in comics, or are you just getting started?
    2. Earlier this week you spoke to CBR and you talk a bit about Wonder Woman and Spectre playing a big part in teasing the future DC Comics stories. What makes these two characters the right choice to push forward?
    3. There have been many cases where a big event or cliffhanger teases the “future events” at the big-two, but in many cases, some of those events don’t happen or fall off. Can you say with certainty what we see in Infinite Frontier will be used and explored down the line?
    4. What goes into writing an overarching structure for a comic like Infinite Frontier? Is it an outline, a rough script, a treatment, an abstract painting they riff off of?
    5. As a writer for the big-two, soon to be publishing a book you’re spearheading in Infinite Frontier, how do you navigate ambition, approaching the size and scope, but also what you want to achieve personally? - i think he’s kinda covered this ok!
    6. It’s not evident if you’ve written or will write Dr. Manhattan, but I must know, is there any extra stress or anxiety around writing a character or exploring the consequences of a character that is so iconically part of one of the most famous comics in existence?
    7. It might be because folks are still figuring out Future State and aren’t quite ready for Infinite Frontier, but I swear there’s even more hype around Robin. What do you think makes Robin aka Damian Wayne such an alluring character for fans?
    8. Can you talk a little bit about Gleb Melnikov’s work on Robin, was there any specific page in the first issue that went above and beyond what you could have anticipated?
    9. The pandemic has affected the entire industry, I was curious if it helped or hindered the development of Infinite Frontier and Robin?

Segment - One thing Forrest is looking forward to in 2021

Segment: Interview - Chip Zdarsky and Jason Loo on Afterlift Eisner Winner February 2nd

    1. Congratulations on your Eisner win! Afterlift is going to have a reincarnation of sorts in February when Dark Horse teams up with Comixology to send this to print, but the journey started before the first issue came out in October 2019. Was the series originally being set for digital-only a pro or a con in your mind?
    2. Aferlift takes readers to many...realms of the afterlife. Can you speak to any inspirations for these realms like Hell and Heaven that influenced this work?
    3. Comixology head of content Chip Mosher was on this show last May and he’s a super guy, I was curious how Afterlift ended up at Comixology or if it was always a project set up there?
    4. I love the naming in Afterlift, “Gornaux the grievous, slayer of all of grenroveria” or the demon Zeniakra, how do you come up with these so they sound right but then are also completely original?
    5. Have either of you played Rocket League? You should get a deal to write a comic about that game, the ability to flip cars is taken to the max in Afterlift!
    6. It’s funny, but it almost seems like the Fast and the Furious series has owned car chase and car stunt movies for too long. That said, would you ever be open to a Fast and the Furious crossover?
    7. Janice Chen talks about her father joining a “weird christian church” as someone who grew up with a born again christian father, I was curious if that detail was from your personal lives something you added for a specific reason?
    8. The book ends on an interesting cliffhanger of sorts, is a sequel in the cards for Afterlift?
    9. After there any other projects in 2021 you’d like to discuss?
