A former business school professor, David now works with leaders from organizations across all industries, including PepsiCo, Fidelity, Adobe, and NASA. His most recent book just out is called ‘Best Team Ever, the surprising science of high performing teams’. Talent doesn’t make the team—the team makes the talent. And how do you go about building a high-performing team?

I’m appreciating more and more how The Unlock Moment is a powerful route to discovering your deepest underlying sense of purpose. I’m looking forward to hearing about how David thinks about purpose, how you find it, how you use it and how you leverage it in the team, and of course what his Unlock Moment was on his own journey to the person he is today. Episode 17: The Importance of Building Team Resilience

Episode 17: The Importance of Building Team Resilience

In this podcast Kathryn McEwen and Karen Griffin talk about Team Resilience, what it means, the practicalities of building it, the need for a systemic approach and its relationship to ‘high performing teams’.   A thought provoking discussion exploring challenging ideas such as; Is the idea of a ‘high performing team’ now dead?!  Are ‘high performing teams' a destination or a dynamic state?,  Given the complexity of teams today how useful really is ‘global benchmarking’, or should teams be just benchmarking against themselves?

    Lean, Agile and Responsive.

    Lean, Agile and Responsive.

Creating High Performance in business by Safaraz Ali

My go to quote for everything about team work and therefore peer challenge and support is:

“we are not a team because we work together,

we are a team because we make each other better”

Each one of us has three key groups of people for leaning on for learning and supporting:

Those ahead of us in a specific area

Those at the same level as us

Those behind us in a specific area

When you get involved in peer challenging and supporting, it allows you to reflect yourself & improve your own performance

    Remember:

    When one teaches, two learn

That’s why they say the best way to learn and grow yourself is to support others

Peer coaching and support process can create a powerful combination of open questions and a diverse range of perspectives on a one to one or one to many basis.

The aim being to help an individual take new perspectives on a challenge and to generate new insights.

The questions are the key, It's all about the questions you ask, how you ask and the follow up questions to get to the core issue and get some real reflective practice and momentum.

As some suggestions and to get you into the flow, it might be useful to consider the following example questions:

    WiserWednesday.com #S01.E04 - High Performing Hybrid Teams
Fascinating debate about hybrid working. Spoiler alert, it isn’t going away, so it’s going to take a shift in how we manage our teams, and the trust we place in our workers to get hybrid to work. Key steps include clarity, compassion, collaboration & communicate, communicate, communicate! Plus, having a growth mindset will help, and why not make coming into the office a magnet not a mandate! Our awesome panellists this episode are Alison Coward (Founder of Bracket), Cate Murden (Founder of PUSH), John Hopkins (Founder - WorkFLEX-Australia) & Danny Smith (Hybrid Consultant and Ex-Oyster HR). Host is James Potten (Founder of Amplified.me). Enjoy!

How to Increase Accountability in My Team

How to Increase Accountability in My Team

How to increase accountability in my team is a question that I have been asked many times by clients, team members and colleagues.

In this podcast, I explain why many managers find holding team members to account difficult and go through what you should do to make increasing accountability in your team much easier.

The benefits you get of increasing accountability in your team in terms of team performance and team morale far outweigh the work to increase accountability. Increasing accountability makes managing teams a lot easier and is an essential step in creating high performing teams.

How to increase accountability in a team is one of the essential skills of leadership and team management. I take you through my experiences and what has worked for me in many businesses include business turnaround and high growth business were team accountability is vital.

“How to Increase Accountability in My Team” has 6 key actions for you to take for creating and increasing accountability. Each will help you create the foundations to improve employee engagement, the team culture and team performance.

Setting expectations clearly and then following-up regularly are probably the two actions that are practiced the least by new and junior managers, yet both are vital to creating an accountability culture within your team.

I have had to take a team with very low team morale, with low accountability, in a failing business and turn around their performance and morale to deliver results to ensure the company did not fail. I used exactly the steps I go through in this podcast to achieve a dramatic team and business turnaround.

Use the tips and examples within this podcast to improve your management skills and leadership skills and enjoy managing and leading your team!
