    My Budget Non-Negotiables

    My Budget Non-Negotiables

I’ve preached the importance of budgeting for a long time.

Let me just state for the record that I will continue to preach the importance of budgeting for as long as I’m able to!

Budgeting changed my life for the better and now I’m helping other people use budgeting to change their own lives.

Unfortunately, there’s still a misconception that life on a budget means a person can’t enjoy life. Not true!

A budget should include the things a person enjoys, in moderation of course!

In this episode, I’m sharing my current budget non-negotiables and why they matter to me.

I’m also going to share a few things I want to become budget non-negotiables, but they haven’t made their way into my budget just yet.

I encourage you to get clear on your own budget non-negotiables and work to make sure they’re factored into your budget.

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [01:30] In this week’s City Girl Solutions Q&A, Raya explains high-yield savings accounts and why they are game-changers for anyone trying to save money.

    • [04:45] While some of my budget non-negotiables aren’t technically discretionary, I choose to spend money on these specific things to improve my quality of life.

    • [08:50] Next, I cover the budget non-negotiables that are truly discretionary. They are things I don’t need, but absolutely love to have.

    • [12:20] Finally, I spend time talking about things that I would like to become budget non-negotiables but I’m not quite there yet.

Things You Can Do to Improve Your Financial Literacy

Things You Can Do to Improve Your Financial Literacy

Did you know April is Financial Literacy Month?

While I think financial literacy should be a focus each and every month, it’s nice to know the need for financial education is being acknowledged.

What steps are you taking to become more financially literate?

I don’t know about you, but had I been financially literate earlier in life, maybe I wouldn’t have struggled so much with debt and overspending.

Had my parents been more financially literate, maybe they could have actually taught me how to save and manage what I had.

We can’t change the past, but we can decide how we want to move forward.

In this episode, I’m sharing some things you can do to improve your financial literacy and take more control of your financial situation.

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [01:42] In the latest City Girl Solutions Q&A, Raya explains high-yield savings accounts and why they are game-changers for anyone trying to save money.

    • [04:25] Did you know City Girl Savings has an online course to help women master the money they make?

    • [07:18] Money coaches are not one-size-fits-all. Raya shares the different ways people can work with a money coach.

    • [11:43] When you know your learning style, you can find resources in that style to help you retain information – especially educational financial information.

    • [15:40] Financial education isn’t just about what others teach you. Your personal experiences play a role.

10 Things to Do Now to Be Richer Next Year

10 Things to Do Now to Be Richer Next Year

Building wealth is a life-long process. It never ends.

That’s a good thing. It means anyone can achieve financial success as long as they work towards it.

However, the earlier you start planning and doing the right things with your money, the earlier you will achieve the wealth you are looking for.

Since we can’t change the past (and erase all of those bad financial decisions), we need to focus on what we can change – the things we do right now.

In this episode, I’m sharing 10 things to do now to be richer by this time next year.

Some of these things are simple and some are more complex, but each of them will help make a difference in your wealth-building journey.

Here's a glance at this episode:

    • [02:43] Cutting back expenses doesn’t have to be permanent, but it can make a big difference in your wealth-building journey.
    • [05:13] A cash-only system can help you stick to your budget, especially when you only use cash for your discretionary spending.
    • [07:25] Investing is one of the best ways to build true, long-term wealth. Get started with a simple account with a company like Betterment.
