DENNE FILM HANDLER IKKE OM TRUMP, MEN OM DET AMERIKA DER GAV OS TRUMP - sådan skriver instruktøren og samfundskritikeren Michael Moore om det nyeste skud på stammen over film fra Batman-universet.

Joker (2019) er instrueret af Todd Phillips, der sammen med Scott Silver også skrev filmens manuskript. Filmen tager udgangpunkt i en oprindelseshistorie om superskurken Jokeren i det amerikanske tegneserieforlag DC Comics superhelteunivers centreret i den kriminalitets belastede storby Gotham City. Filmen adskiller sig dog fra de traditionelle superheltefilm ved ikke at være en actionfilm, men i stedet karakteriseres som en psykologisk thriller.

Filmens hovedrolle som standupkomikeren Arthur Fleck alias Joker spilles suverænt af skuespilleren Joaquin Phenix, og i en overbevisende birolle har vi Robert De Niro som tv-værten Murray Franklin. Filmen blev nomineret til ikke mindre end 11 Oscars og modtog to Oscars - én for bedste hovedrolle som gik til Joaquin Phenix og én for musikken som gik til den islandske komponist Hildur Guðnadóttir, som komponerede musikken til tv-serien Chernobyl (2019).
