Season 2: Episode 13 - Olentangy River Brewing Company

Season 2: Episode 13 - Olentangy River Brewing Company

We return after a week off. In this episode I talk about the great beer journey we took in Indianapolis. The beer was amazing, the food was fantastic and the people were very friendly. I look forward to returning to Indianapolis again in the near future. In the news I talk about how excited I am for the return of BrewDog's Annual General Mayhem festival, better known as AGM. I also touch on the Australian hop harvest as well as the explosion of can beer sales in 2020.

In this week's interview I traveled to Olentangy River Brewing Company to discuss how things are going in the central part of Ohio. We sampled some fantastic beer and talked about the growth and development in the northern part of Columbus, and how it has impacted the craft beer industry. We also got into how the combination of a coffee roaster and craft brewery has been very successful for ORBC overall.

Season 2: Episode 12 - Blue Monkey Brewing Company

Season 2: Episode 12 - Blue Monkey Brewing Company

In this weeks episode I talk about the amazing stouts I was able to drink on Saturday night. I also discuss my upcoming Indianapolis extended weekend beer getaway. I ask for suggestions for my upcoming October trip to Michigan, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Illinois.

In the news I discuss how all states are now allowing dining and most have allowed bars to re-open. I mention the new SBA website to help those in the restaurant and brewery business get back on their feet, and I mention the top 12 beers in the UK. Later I reveal one of the weirdest dreams I have ever had.

In the interview segment I sit down with Rick Sacha and Jimmy Mackay to discuss everything going on at Blue Monkey Brewing Company. Located in North Royalton, this merry band of good natured individuals pulled off something never before accomplished in this southern suburb of Cleveland, they opened up a brewery. They are pretty diverse with their eight beers on tap, and they are brewing up some pretty good stuff if I do say so myself.

Season 2: Episode 10 - North Water Brewing

Season 2: Episode 10 - North Water Brewing

In this episode I talk about Covid screwing up my beercation plans for October. Never fear though as I was able to turn lemons into lemonade. I also talk once again about how crappy people are in craft beer Facebook pages, and I discuss a ridiculously dumb law proposed in West Virginia that would raise the excise tax 431%. During the interview I sat down with Don Schjeldahl from North Water Brewing Company and we discuss how being a consultant that had an impeccable sense of choosing the right locations for certain businesses led him to an encounter with Ken Grossman, aka the brain trust behind Sierra Nevada Brewing. Later he used the knowledge he gained working with Sierra Nevada to plan and open a 7bbl brewery in Kent, Ohio.

Season 2: Episode 9 - MadCap Brewing Company

Season 2: Episode 9 - MadCap Brewing Company

In this episode I discuss the nightmares of being a home owner. Meanwhile in the news I discuss the Brewers Associations Top 50 Breweries list that was recently released. This list is based on production and sales volume. I notated a few interesting points before moving on to the interview segment.

During the interview I sat down with Ryan Holmes from MadCap Brewing Company and we discussed everything from their modest start in a small barn in Stow to moving to a very large facility in Kent. We also discuss how Covid affected them and what folks can expect from MadCap in 2021. Here’s a hint, it involves my other favorite thing, food. We also nerd out a little when discussing some of the recipes as well.

    Season 2: Episode 8 - Akronym Brewing

This week I prepare for St. Patrick's Day by recording early. I read some feedback from listeners regarding the Home Brew podcast idea I floated last week. In the news I discuss the situation in Indianapolis regarding BrewDog and how they have responded to it. I compare and contrast it to what happened at the Platform location in Columbus.

In the interview segment I sit down with Shawn Adams and Joey Greising from Akronym Brewing. We talk about the history of Akronym and how they weathered the Covid-19 storm. We also discuss some exciting new plans coming down the road for Akronym including a new beer garden and a brand new canning line that is set to go to work very soon.

Season 1: Episode 18 - Twisted Spike Brewing Company

Season 1: Episode 18 - Twisted Spike Brewing Company

In this episode I reach outside of the state of Ohio and into another state that starts with the letter O to find Twisted Spike Brewing Company from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The co-owner and head brewer Bruce Sanchez joins me to discuss how he took his almost 30 plus year love of home brewing and converted it into being one of the first breweries in OKC. Until 2016 beer laws in Oklahoma were very much antiquated, but after a new law was passed in August of 2016 the brewery boom of Oklahoma began. Bruce discusses how the brewery got it's name, his love of Belgian style ales, and how Covid has wreaked havoc across the OKC brewing scene.
