    Asteroid City

    Asteroid City

On this special bonus episode of Cinemaholics, we discuss Asteroid City, the latest movie from writer/director Wes Anderson. His new feature has a few things in common with his previous one, The French Dispatch, particularly when it comes to his ability to convince almost every recognizable actor in Hollywood to show up. And show up they did for this quirky sci-fi romantic comedy drama about a Junior Stargazer convention in a 50s desert town where events take an alienating turn, so to speak.

Asteroid City was directed and written by Wes Anderson and is based on a story by Anderson and Roman Coppola. The ensemble cast includes Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Steve Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, and Jeff Goldblum. The film premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and opens in limited release on June 16 through Focus Features. It will later go wide on June 23.

Our intro music this week is “Gato” by TyLuv. & Strehlow.

Folge 1207: THE WHALE - Der schwere Kampf um Erlösung

Folge 1207: THE WHALE - Der schwere Kampf um Erlösung

    The Menu (2022): "Yes Chef"

    The Menu (2022): "Yes Chef"

Hello, we’d like to order one black comedy done well, please. This week, The Menu (2022) is what’s on the menu for Spooky Tuesday, and we’re breaking down the stunt casting that might’ve been, the cannibalism that should’ve been, and the iconic line-reading of the word “tortillas” that definitely was. In a film all about exactly what ingredients are needed to make real art, it’s clear that this project has a true love for creation baked in.

    Great dark satire: The Menu

    Great dark satire: The Menu

In this week’s episode of the AIPT Movies podcast, Alex, Tim, and Matt discuss Mark Mylod’s darkly-comedic satire, The Menu! Countless funny lines delivered by a fantastic cast who really “make a meal” of their roles! Sneakily effective character arcs! A movie that’s much better than the trailer may have led you to believe! A great, mean satire that perfectly blends horror and comedy, while also sharing a surprisingly good message about the dangers of forgetting why you do the things you love!

In addition, Matt and Alex saw Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and they thought it was possibly too goofy for its own good. Meanwhile, Alex saw Cocaine Bear and thought its goofiness level was just right!

You can find AIPT Movies on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As always, if you enjoy the podcast, be sure to leave us a positive rating, subscribe to the show, and tell your friends!

The AIPT Movies podcast brings you the latest in movie news, reviews, and more! Hosted by supposed “industry vets,” Alex Harris, Tim Gardiner, and Matt Paul, the show gives you a peek behind the scenes from three filmmakers with oddly nonexistent filmographies. You can find Alex on Instagram and Twitter @ActionHarris. Matt is a terrific artist that you can find on Instagram @no_wheres_ville. Tim can’t be found on social media because he doesn’t exist. Episode 56 | The Menu (2022)

🍽 In this episode we are taking a bite out of last year's delicacy, The Menu. If you haven't seen it, we recommend you check it out first, as we don't want to spoil your appetite. It's a great "Eat the Rich" style thriller in the same vein as Ready or Not, and stars Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy. Join us as we devour this feast of a film, and as always, stick around for dessert where we'll choose which character we think was most deserving to die.

    The Whale

    The Whale

The Whale stars Brendan Fraser in his triumphant return to the big screen, but it's also a notable return for Darren Aronofsky, whose last film mother! (2017) still has a lot of folks scratching their heads. No matter. Based on the 2012 play by Samuel D. Hunter (who writes the screenplay for his own adaptation), The Whale has emerged as an awards favorite for Brendan Fraser and A24, as well as a notable showcase for Sadie Sink and Hong Chau. But critics are certainly split. Are the Cinemaholics split as well? Tune in now to find out in this special bonus episode of the podcast.

The Whale (Justice for Brendan Fraser!)

The Whale (Justice for Brendan Fraser!)

We're back!! And we finally saw our beloved Brendan in Darren Aronofsky's adaptation of the play The Whale. What a time we had in this theatre. We laughed. We cried. We sobbed. We shared reclining seats with strangers and movie bros on a random Wednesday morning. We reflected. We digested. And we wanted more. It's a redemption film for Brendan and it's surely the beginning of a second wave for the Frase on the silver screen. Grab a box of tissues and get ready to applaud our baby Brendan all award season long. All this and so much more on this week's Mummy Dearest!

    Darren Aronofsky

    Darren Aronofsky

Darren Aronofsky is known for directing dark, provocative, divisive films such as “Requiem for a Dream” and “Black Swan,” but in “The Whale,” he sees hope, “human connection and a belief in the human spirit.”

In this episode of “The Envelope,” Aronofsky reflects on how “The Whale” interacts with obesity and fatphobia, discusses exploring humanity through science, and describes why the “Brenaissance” — star Brendan Fraser’s triumphant return to acting — caught him by surprise.

The Menu Review - Episode 117

The Menu Review - Episode 117

Writer Will Tracy, who counts shows like “Last Week Tonight” and “Succession” among his credits on IMDB, was on his honeymoon in Norway when he started exploring the best options for dinner as a certified foodie.

What he discovered was a private dining location on an island where a boat was required to pick you up and drop you off for a five-hour experience where the chef and staff prepared an elaborate meal for an exclusive set of clientele.

That was all the inspiration Tracy needed to return to New York and seek out his friend Seth Reiss to explore transforming this idea into an actual film that dissected the elite world of overpriced gourmet food. During the writing process, Tracy and Reiss actually started imagining Ralph Fiennes in the lead role as the eccentric chef that sits at the center of their dark-horror comedy but the pair were even more stunned when the actor actually agreed to do the part.

The finished product centers around a group of 1-percenters who pay to have the ultimate eating experience on a private island with a world class chef but they soon find out that what they’re being fed is far more bitter than any dish that’s being served…

In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we’re going to clear our palettes and try to figure out the theme for the evening as we review the 2022 film “The Menu”…
