This episode of the Horse Talk Podcast covers everything horse owners need to know about Fall Laminitis, what it is, how to prevent, and how to manage. Join our From the Experts Conversation with Katie Young Ph.D, Equine Nutritionist with Kentucky Equine Research.

Katie Young received her bachelor’s degree from Missouri State University in biology, with minors in animal science and chemistry, and earned her doctorate from Texas A&M University in equine nutrition and exercise physiology. Since leaving academia, she has spent nearly 30 years in the feed industry as an equine nutritionist, horse feed program manager, and business consultant for Farmland Industries, a large regional feed company, and then as technical equine nutritionist and horse feed product manager for Purina Animal Nutrition. Honoring the Journey of our Horse Partners

Honoring the Journey of our Horse Partners

On our latest podcast episode we are sharing the journey about one of our mare's luna, and speaking about holding consent and honoring the path of our horse partners.

Our belief is that we need to listen and hold space for the voice and consent of our horse partners in all ways, this is an example of how that can manifest.

Looking at our horses and treating them as sovereign beings doesn't just mean we hold them that way in our work, but also in our relationship with them.

This is Luna's journey with us around that path and process.

Get Your Brain Right, Get Your Horse Right ("Cognitive Laziness") - #074 The Horse's Advocate Podcast

Get Your Brain Right, Get Your Horse Right ("Cognitive Laziness") - #074 The Horse's Advocate Podcast

I am returning to podcasting after a 6-month break. I will tell you about why in the NEXT podcast. Instead, in this podcast, I want to read a blog I wrote back in March 2020.

There are two drivers for my action here. The first is the recent uptick in the discussion about artificial intelligence. The second is the observation that most horse owners I see or hear from are still listening to this artificial intelligence.

My example is old, both in when it happened and my use of it. About 500 years ago, we believed the Sun circled the Earth. Then Galileo taught his belief that the Sun was in the middle of Earth's orbit. The church sentenced him to death but then changed the sentence to lifetime house arrest plus burning all his books. Then Copernicus, who was NOT cognitively lazy, found the truth. Few people today think differently about Earth's orbit around the Sun.

Elon Musk is at the forefront of the warning that artificial intelligence can enforce lies. From there, people take sides, fervently believing what they know. But, taking a step back, isn't this just marketing? Knowing what is "truth" and "accurate scientific data" are becoming more complicated.

Enjoy my perspective in my March 2020 blog, "Get Your Brain Right, Get Your Horse Right ("Cognitive Laziness")."

Allowing our Horses to be Horses in How They Teach.

Allowing our Horses to be Horses in How They Teach.

There is a delicate balance between holding safety with our horses and allowing them to be horses in how they teach and show up.

We wanted to deepen this topic on the podcast and give examples of how we allow our horses the permission to be horses and still hold safety for humans.

Giving permission for our horses to be horses doesn't mean we compromise safety and we also need to learn how to read body language and know our individual horses so they can be able to teach in what is unique to them.

A in depth navigation of offering some examples of how this shows up, how we empower and honor our horses in who they are in the full range of who they are and also hold the space of safety.

Speaking the Language of Horse Medicine.

Speaking the Language of Horse Medicine.

On our latest podcast episode we are sharing some examples of how do we speak about this work with horses?

A question we are often asked is around how do we translate this purpose with horses into language that our clients and others will understand.

We give examples of how to speak this language to non horse people and how to find the language and messaging to use that will connect and land with those that we are hoping to reach in this work.

When we understand how to speak this language to those that we are trying to work with, we feel more confident and have greater success in filling our spaces with clients that we are wanting to fill our practice with.

    Horse Medicine Through Activities

    Horse Medicine Through Activities

On our latest podcast we are sharing how we hold and facilitate activities and exercises in horse medicine leadership.

In everything we teach and offer in our philosophy we will always center around the partnership and relationship with horses.

This is a great podcast in sharing our philosophy on how we do activities that still honor the horses and their teaching.
