    Rewriting India's Toy Story

    Rewriting India's Toy Story

What should the world’s most populous country, with more than a fifth of its people aged below 10 have? A huge toy market. But despite a large customer base and deals like Reliance’s purchase of toy giant Hamley’s, we are still a hundredth of the global toy market. Two reasons: unorganised players account for most of the market and the organised players have always sold mostly imported toys. The government is trying to change this by stifling imports, especially from world no. 2 China, and incentivising local toy makers. Schools are encouraging toys in their curriculum, parents are looking for more educational toys and startups are rushing to fill that demand. Host Shabori Das explores the current landscape and future prospects with Ashwini Kumar of Smartivity Labs, Disha Katharani of Imagimake, and Jeswant R of Funskool India in this episode of The Morning Brief podcast. Tune in!

Episode 267: I would like the Podcast to start now
This week we have a review of DC's The Flash, and after a long wait, it did not disappoint. Nintendo held a long and fruitful direct. Netflix held their annual Tudum event, and the FTC is smoking the same stuff as the UK's CMA. We also got news on two PlayStation movie ventures, Star Trek Strange New Worlds returns to screens, and Sony dropped a bloody and brutal Kraven the Hunter Trailer.

Episode 214: Its a word of Jurassic's and were just living in it

Episode 214: Its a word of Jurassic's and were just living in it
Summer Game fest was in full swing this weekend, and we go over just about every game announced. Which is probably the last time ill ever do that again, lol. We also have a review of Jurassic World Dominion; hint, its not as bad as the internet would have you believe. Also other gaming news, and movie news. As well as reviews for Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 5, and Ms. Marvel episode 2.

What are you doin' here?!?! Hey since you stopped by.... check out our chat with our friend/YouTuber/ornery neighbor Brian Lawson. We talk about Brian's YouTube Channel called Diecast Outkast and how he modifies and restores all kinds of diecast cars (Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Ertl, etc.) We also talk about rogue chihuahuas, feuding neighbors and our sad past musical aspirations.

Back Through The Basement Episode 29 - Superheroes and GoBots

Back Through The Basement Episode 29 - Superheroes and GoBots

The Matchbox and Hotwheels cases continue to reveal, among many treasures, some awesome superhero cars (and cars based on other “good ole” famous franchises) from Corgi Juniors!  These finds, of course, lead to a lot of Superhero talk and an “Index Card” game for Tom and Julee to guess each other’s favorite superhero. Julee and Tom inevitably get a bit slap-happy (by the time they VROOOM to end of the car journey) when they unearth a bunch of “dink” plastic and wooden cars that SHOULD be easy “biffs” -- unfortunately the cars start to coalesce into a collection of some significance forcing a battle for the pressure to Keep! Oh yeah:  and they find a GoBot!!!

Now in their forties, Julee and Tom Antonellis are reconnecting as brother and sister in THE MOST distant a socially-distant podcast can be in the United States.  While recording on each coast (and seeing each other over FaceTime) all the way from Los Angeles (Tom) to Boston (Julee), they start unearthing the core lessons, laughs and connections of their childhood.  Plus, Julee has to fight her fear of cobwebs while Tom enjoys the comfort of his office -- yet he CAN'T touch his beloved toys like she can.

As their Instagram bio indicates --  @backthroughthebasementpod   -- you can follow them there to see pictures of everything they unearth -- Tom & Julee (actors, comics, voiceover artists & siblings), children of the 80s, must go through all their toys and belongings in their parents’ basement. Oh boy!

Back Through The Basement Episode 28 - Secret Santa and Matchbox Cars

Tom and Julee start off getting excited about potential future Playdates, sharing memories of community pools and Water Country before they crack into a surprise gift!!  Thank you, Secret Santa!  Don’t worry they DO get to old toys when they go Back Through “Door Number 1”.  Harkening back to the Game Show which concluded in an arc of episodes from Season 2, “Door Number 1” was comprised of boxes and one of them contained cases of Tom and Julee’s vintage Matchbox and Hotwheels cars!  Wow did those cases yield wonderful treasures!!  “Buckle up” and enjoy the “ride”!
