Hour of Slack #1814 RADIO SAFE VERSION

RADIO SAFE VERSION - Stang reads from the new SubGenius book EYELASH, the latest Dobbs.town Mirror, and from recent rant-liners by Rev. Elvis Martini. From the SubGenius documentary, we hear audio describing the Church's biggest early devival, and the first super-obnoxious SubGenius Kook of many. The Firesign Theatre rarities continue, along with classic "lost" ESO Swamp Radio and Puzzling Evidence clips. Contributors include Dr. Philo Drummond, Paul Mavrides, Richard Linklater, Puzzling Evidence, Rev. Penn Jillette, Dr. Hal, Rev. Kelly Cash, Dr. Legume, Lonesome Cowboy Dave and Nurse Vicky.

Hour of Slack #1814 - What Really Happened at The Night of Slack

Stang sings (?) a little January 20 ditty at the beginning of this Internet version that's not on the Radio version. Stang also reads from the new SubGenius book EYELASH, the latest Dobbs.town Mirror, and from recent rant-liners by Rev. Elvis Martini. Hour of Slack #1813 - An Eyelash on the Dobbstown Mirror

The first full-length SubGenius science fiction novel, EYELASH by Nikolai Kingsley, is now available, and Rev. Stang reads an excerpt from it. He also reads the latest Dobbs.town Mirror (in stages) as well as a new rant by Onan. Interspersed are classic best-of bits from The Puzzling Evidence Show and ESO Swamp Radio (all from 2001-2002) and some more very rare Firesign Theatre from their early radio days. We also hear Paul Mavrides and Penn Jillette talking about the Church, from the new documentary. There’s one song, a hidden track by Morgan Gutentag, titled, “Hidden Track.” Everything else is gravy, or, LeMur. (INTERNET VERSION = RADIO SAFE)

Hour of Slack #1812 RADIO SAFE VERSION

    RADIO SAFE VERSION -

The only new thing in this episode is a clip about the history of The Book of the SubGenius from Sandy Boone's new movie. Stang mispronounces Nick Offerman's name in the credits but that's understandable since Stang is very, very old now -- as are these amazing best-of selections from The Puzzling Evidence Show, ESO Swamp Radio/Hour of Slack (both from 2001-2002), and unbelievable rare clips from The Firesign Theatre's recent release of their earliest radio work, a collection called Dope Humor of the Seventies. This kind of show is easier for Stang to assemble as he heals up from doing something stupid to his own backbones. And it's much more fun than just using reruns.

Hour of Slack #1811 RADIO SAFE VERSION

    RADIO SAFE VERSION.

This is a pretty word-heavy episode, with NEW, very old, rare material from The Firesign Theatre, along with some old timey ESO Swamp Radio from the year 2001 — very directly Firesign inspired. We continue with samples of the soundtrack of Sandy K. Boone's movie, JR BOB DOBBS AND THE CHURCH OF THE SUBGENIUS. Dr. G. Gordon Gordon’s extremely rare “It's Not Just The” # 2 has been unearthed, too! At the end: “Purple Haze” cover by The Psycho Skeletons. The old/new Firesign recordings come from firesigntheatre.com, where may be found many new and old albums such as DOPE HUMOR OF THE SEVENTIES. There would probably not be any kind of SubGenius radio or possibly even Church outreach, without The Firesign Theatre.

Hour of Slack #1809 - Turn-of-the-Century ESO Swamp Radio Classics

Hour of Slack #1809 - Turn-of-the-Century ESO Swamp Radio Classics

(CLEAN FOR RADIO) This one gets REALLY WEIRD. It's a new arrangement of fairly old stuff, all from late year 2000 and early 2001, all from Chas Smith's ESO Swamp Radio at WCSB Cleveland. Every month back then Stang used to compile the clips from that show that he had used on Hour of Slack, just in case he might need ways to reduce show production time in his old age. This is the first of those compilations,. Stang did go to the trouble of taking the random parts and organizing them so that they sound less random and more like we MEANT it to be that way. “We” being the late Professor Chas Smith, who was the host, producer, mixboard operator, and guiding star; Lonesome Cowboy Dave, who had been doing radio and music with Chas for many years, and Stang, the new guy to their show. Rev. Bleepo Abarnathy is also heard, calling in.

Hour of Slack #1808 - The New Frequency

Hour of Slack #1808 - The New Frequency

(CLEAN FOR RADIO) This episode, #128, was produced on May 1, 1988 for a potentially new audience, as KNON-Dallas had just swapped frequencies with a Christian station. Stang enthusiastically took advantage of having so many confused unwitting new Christian listeners! This is therefore another "explanatory" but also confrontational show, with much spontaneous ranting, plus clips of Stang guesting on Kevin McCarthy's Pink talk show on KLIF-AM in Dallas. That is mixed and matched with various Media Barrages and hilarious then-new music by The Swinging Erudites and Dr. Onan's Wotan Band. Also: reading from "High Weirdness by Mail" which was about to be published. (Coincidentally, the old Dallas version of the show was broadcast on 89.3 at 9 pm Sunday nights -- exactly like the later Cleveland version! Same time and frequency!) (CLEAN FOR RADIO)

    RADIO SAFE VERSION.

This episode is another of those perverted group marriages of young, old and in between. From Hour of Slack #88 we hear the young Puzzling Evidence, Paul Mavrides, Dr. Hal, Ivan Stang, Pope Sternodox, St. Byron Werner and Dr. Philo Drummond. We hear those selfsame early apostles as doddering old codgers, in an excerpt from Sandy Boone's fine documentary film. In between, from the future year of 2000, we hear the middle aged Stang, Lonesome Cowboy Dave, and Professor Chas Smith back before the wars and the diseases and deaths, when we were all ever so happy-go-Slacky. There is not much music but what there is, is The Rudy Schwartz Project and Shemekia Copeland. By coincidence, every level of show age includes background music composed by Nino Rota for Fellini's 8 1/2, performed by various artists including Snakefinger and The Potatoes.

Hour of Slack #1805 RADIO SAFE VERSION

RADIO SAFE VERSION. Half is brand new, half is ancient episode #76. We continue hearing clips of the recent Film School podcast with Sandy Boone and Dr. Philo Drummond being interviewed about the new SubGenius feature film. There are some hard-hitting new songs by bands both unfamiliar and very familiar, and the Internet version has a rather blistering and possibly highly offensive extra song added at the end. The angry young 1986 version of Stang delivers a quite cantankerous and strongly worded brag/attack, with hypocritical Christians as its main target, but SubGenius hypocrites as well. The classic G. Gordon Gordon rant "It's Not Just The..." meets its female counterpart, as delivered by Sister Krys. There's lots of Dr. Hal from so long ago that he was just Rev. Hal! Johnny Winter helps Stang celebrate his latest x-rays, which proved Stang's not just a crybaby sissy, but comes by his bellyaching fair and square.
