What is the route cause of weight gain? It's simply being in a surplus for an extended period of time, whether it's planned/organized or done without knowing. I want you to think of calories as simply energy. If your body is burning a good amount of energy in a day, but still has extra energy that hasn't been used, the body will store that energy (creating fat).
A lot of people do abuse the carbohydrate macro which then leads to making people believe that carbs are the issue.
