This time Steve chats to the Rev. Nicky Gumbel, the pioneer of Alpha and Vicar of HTB in London, one of the largest Church of England churches in the UK. The guys chat about Nicky's remarkable ancestors, coming to faith at university, meeting his wife, Pippa, the tragic death of his best friend Mick, plus the global success of the Alpha course.

Steve chats to the inspirational Paul Cowley, the author of the hit book, 'Thief, Prisoner, Soldier, Priest'. Paul  grew up in Manchester amid the chaotic world of his alcoholic parents. His early exposure to heavy drinking, explosive arguments and the unnerving aggression of his father led him into homelessness and crime. By seventeen he was behind bars.

Years later, following a career in the army which ‘made a man of him’ yet ultimately failed to give him direction and purpose, Paul’s search for meaning resulted in an unexpected encounter with God that changed his life for ever.

This remarkable and touching account of his early years, from thief to prisoner, soldier and, eventually, priest, should inspire anyone who feels their life is out of control. It is, by turns, a dramatic, traumatic and comic story, yet one that stands as a testament to how God offers hope to all who have the courage to respond.

In this extended episode, the Naujavan Podcast is talking about racism and the church. Joining Shakeel to talk about this are Becs and Myles Dhillon, and Bec's Dad, Nicky Gumbel. Becs and Myles have been involved in issues of gender and equality on a global scale. They have spent some time working in India with an organisation that was combating human trafficking, particularly with women caught in sex trafficking. Nicky is the vicar of Holy Trinity Brompton in London, and also the pioneer of the Alpha course. Last year, Becs and Nicky started the podcast: Conversations on Faith and Equality. We sat down with them to have our own Naujavan conversation about faith and equality, especially focusing on racial inequalities, during the global wake of the Black Lives Matter Movement.
