Every year we have been seeing changes in various States' tags and draw applications, and Colorado is no exception.  This week we are joined by our Western Regional Coordinator and Colorado resident Tim Berges.  Tim is very well versed in Colorado's draw applications and tag/point systems, and comes on the show to give us some insight into what 2024 looks like.  Tim describes this year's changes as not being as drastic as he anticipated, but whether it be because of conservational changes or extreme weather events impacting wildlife populations, some adjustments have been made and more may be coming.  Tim also speaks not just as a tag and draw application expert, but as a Colorado resident to the recent wolf re-introduction in Colorado, and the Mountain Lion vote coming to the ballot in 2024.  If you have any interest in hunting Colorado this year, or in future hunting seasons, this is one to listen to.

A backcountry bear/mountain lion hunt turned into a life-or-death situation in the blink of an eye.  The anticipation was high for Braden Funderburg as he and his dad set out into the Arizona wilderness; and it didn't take long for Braden to get on a big bear during the first hunt.  Hunting behind dogs, they were led to a cave where the big bear had decided to make his stand.  After putting 2 rounds in the bear from an already short distance, the 3rd round was fired at point blank range as the bear charged out of the cave an off the mountain, grabbing Braden's leg on the way down!  Braden joins us on the show to share his insane story publicly for the very first time.  Hit play and get ready to be on the edge of your seat!

Charles Beaty evaded capture for over 20 years, killing more world-class bucks in South Texas than most people will ever see in their lifetime. The Colorado Flatland Deer saga continues!  Hot on the heels of our mule deer episode, the same crew brings us another podcast from Colorado.  However the focus has now shifted, and so have the dynamics.  With Sam tagged out, the mission is now to get Mike a whitetail with a bow before the upcoming rifle opener.  But the whitetails are few and far between, and that's not the only challenge facing them.  The guys recap the 3 days that followed the mule deer hunt, the grind of finding whitetails in this flat country, and what's worse is the most recent variable for which they have little control over; and that's poachers.  Never did they think they would be the recipients of hunter harassment during this trip, or that the game warden and sheriff would be involved, but that's what happened.  Just when you thought this story couldn't get any crazier, the script writers found a way.  We promise you cannot make this stuff up!

We've all seen those hunts, whether online or on TV, where a hunter gets up close and personal with a wild animal in a spot and stalk situation.  For some it is a dream to be able to do that for themselves one day; and that's exactly how it was for our Show Host Sam.  This episode is recorded in Colorado Deer Camp with Tim, Mike and Sam after 3 days of hunting muleys in the flat farmland of eastern Colorado.  The crew talks about the discouraging start to the hunt, with challenges such as bad weather and poor deer movement.  However it only takes a second for things to change though, and that's what happened after spotting a buck bedded in a CRP field.  Join us for an insane story as this crew, and one driven bow hunter put everything they had into a play on one mule deer buck.  They accomplish what has never been done before on this eastern Colorado farm in rifle country, making this one of our best episodes ever!
