    Ny teknik med gentestning har lett till etiska frågor. Vill man veta om man kommer utveckla en sjukdom eller inte? Detta dilemma berör bland annat den ärftliga sjukdomen Huntingtons.

    Någon som stått inför just den här frågan är Roland Brynjestål. Huntingtons sjukdom har funnits i hans släkt länge – hans pappa dog i det, hans farmor också. I dag tror man även att hans gammelfarmor hade sjukdomen.

    – Det var ju på 40-50-talet när man inte visste var det var. Så när hon var i fas fyra, som man kallar det, så gömde de mer eller mindre undan henne i någon gammal lada typ. Det låter ju sjukt, säger han.

    Huntingtons sjukdom är speciell på det sättet att det är en monogenetisk sjukdom. Om man har huntingtongenen så är risken 50 % att den förs vidare till ens barn.

    Roland har levt hela sitt liv med tron om att han kommer att utveckla sjukdomen. Först ville han inte testa sig. Men när han väl bestämde sig för att ändå göra det kom beskedet som en chock. Det var negativt.

    –  Det var en väldigt konstig tom känsla. Mest tror jag att det var för att man levt så länge och sett anhöriga få sjukdomen, varför ska inte jag få den nu då? Det var väldigt jobbigt, också när alla runt omkring var så jublande glada, säger han.

    Simon is standing for the transformation of how we relate to and cure diseases and empower people in every situation and he promises to be the first person positive for the gene to never get the disease and is committed to finding a cure to extend his own amazing life.

    He IS in the arena, daring greatly and living full out, aware that each moment of each day is precious.

    Simon was a collegiate Basketball player, kinesiologist and boutique studio owner and is now a relationship coach and love enthusiast.

The book and sermon also deal with Woody’s tragic struggle with Huntington’s Disease and the spiritual resources he drew upon at that point in his life. About the Author: Rev. Steve Edington is a UU minister residing in Nashua, New Hampshire where he served the UU Church of Nashua for 24 years. He is presently the interim minister of the Unitarian Church of Montpelier, Vermont. Steve is also the author of The Beat Face of God—The Beat Generation Writers as Spirit Guides, and Troubadour and Poet—The Magical Ministry of Ric Masten. He is on the Lowell Celebrates Kerouac Committee of Lowell, Massachusetts which puts on an annual Jack Kerouac Festival there. For the past two years he has been a program presenter at the Woody Guthrie Festival in Okemah.
