While I'm off this week, we have my recent chat with Andrew Rannells about his new book 'Uncle of the Year: & Other Debatable Triumphs,' plus his upcoming Broadway show 'Gutenberg! The Musical!' (SPOILER: It's NOT about Steve Guttenberg). Later, Ike Barinholtz is here to talk his new film 'Maximum Truth,' his father Alan's iconic role as the Judge on 'Jury Duty', and his new moustache. Which reminds me: why is Ike not gay? For more interviews and behind-the-scenes tea, tune in to Andy Cohen Live weekdays on Radio Andy by subscribing to SiriusXM. Blockers — Emily VanDerWerff

    Blockers — Emily VanDerWerff

Blockers tells the story of three teenage girls determined to lose their virginity on prom night; it’s also about their parents mourning the loss of their daughters, watching them grow up and learning to let them go. The 2018 movie, directed by Kay Cannon, has everything you’d expect in a sex comedy: vulgarity, ridiculous gags, and hilarious jokes. It also complicates notions of sexuality and gender in surprising ways. Emily VanDerWerff, a writer and critic-at-large for Vox, was deeply struck by the movie when she first saw it. She realized it was showing her something she never could have imagined: a life for herself as a woman.

Emily VanDerWerff is the critic-at-large for Vox. Her work has also appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Grantland, and The Baffler. She is the co-creator of the DiscoverPods-nominated fiction podcast Arden and the co-author of the book Monsters of the Week: The Complete Critical Companion to The X-Files.

‘The Hunt’ and the Return of the Buff Black Nerd

‘The Hunt’ and the Return of the Buff Black Nerd

The “Buff Black Nerd” is back in the building! Or I should say, back in his own apartment, because we are again recording remotely. This week Ify, Drea, and Alonso discuss the incredibly controversial film The Hunt, and decide whether it deserves the amount of blowback it received. Plus, we chat about the movies that use swearing and curse words the most elegantly. And, as always, we’ve got ‘Staff Picks.’

In news, Ethan Hawke pitches a new Before sequel and Christopher Nolan pens an emotional essay about movie theaters.

    Staff Picks:

    Ify – Redline
    Drea – Banana Split
Alonso – Terrence McNally: Every Act of Life

With Ify Nwadiwe, Drea Clark, and Alonso Duralde.
