Capitals analyst Craig Laughlin believes Braden Holtby still deserves to be the top goaltender, but that rookie Ilya Samsonov is quickly gaining on him, and by the end of the season we could see a situation develop that's akin to when Philipp Grubauer replaced Holtby at the start of the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
