EPISODE 95: Kevin So has garnered the attention and respect of 5-time Grammy award winner Keb' Mo', singer/activist Billy Bragg and Tony Award winning playwright David Henry Hwang, and has built a loyal fan base around the world for the past 30 years. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, as well as Hollywood Bowl, Wiltern Theatre, and The Ryman in Nashville. In 2007, Kevin was proud recipient of the NYC International Fringe Festival Award (Best Music & Lyrics) for “Great Wall” – a musical loosely based on his life and times. Kevin has also served as multi-instrumentalist (keyboards, guitar, harmonica, mandolin) in the Keb’ Mo’ Band for the past 15 years. His songs have been recorded by India Arie (“Crush On You”), Keb' Mo' ("Talk”), Crystal Bowersox (“I Got Angels”), Ana Popovic (“Slow Dance”), Ronnie Baker Brooks (“Wham Bam Thank You Sam”) and Shemekia Copeland ("Sounds Like The Devil”).  Kevin resides in Massachusetts. Miles Mosely is a captivating artist whose unique stylings have invited many to refer to him as the Jimi Hendrix of upright bass. Combining a solid groove and improvisational prowess with his upright, bow, and an array of effects pedals, Miles has contributed his innovative tones to top acts from Chris Cornell and Kendrick Lamar to Korn’s Jonathan Davis and Rihanna—and that’s alongside his own solo records and work for film soundtracks. On this week’s episode, host Josh Paul goes in depth with Miles on his story, style, and playing philosophy which—despite its unconventionality—speaks to any musician with a passion for playing music and a need to be heard.

In this episode, British-born musician, producer and sound engineer, Jeep Hook, tells us about how the music business has changed since the early 1980’s. He’ll give us some tidbits on what it was like to tour with the band Talk Talk, and how his journey went from England to L.A. and landed in the hip hop capital of the South. There’s some notes about his jazz singer first wife who had several hit songs, high jinks that happened while on the road, and a couple of celebrity interactions. And he’ll give us a healthy drink recipe, which we'll enhance with a little vodka. ( Can't leave it too healthy, you know....)

This is the mantra that permeates throughout all of India.Arie's 2019 album, Worthy. It had been six years since she last released a proper LP, and India didn't miss a beat. She discusses injustice in Black America, finding love, and gives us some uplifting words that we can all use, especially in these times.

Singer/poet/educator Camille Yarbrough sits down with us to discuss the timeliness of the album, the parallels between Camille's and India's work, and India's growth as an artist in her nearly 20 year career.
