The Heart of Home: Home Care Conversations with Merrily Orsini

The Heart of Home: Home Care Conversations with Merrily Orsini
Home may be where the heart is … but perhaps each home takes on its own symbolic heart too.
In this episode of Aging GreatFULLy we put the spotlight on HOME. Specifically, The Heart of Home, as we welcome special guest, Merrily Orsini, for home care conversations every listener will truly appreciate! Merrily Orsini is Founder and Board Chair of corecubed, and considered a thought leader in the in-home care services industry.

In this must-listen power-hour of enlightYOUment, Orsini shares why home care isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach and explains why choices for aging-in-place are so complicated. But, despite the challenges, Orsini provides a simple overview to begin the decision-making process as to when, where, and how to begin making decisions, either for yourself or on behalf of a loved one.
We also discuss intergenerational living, healthcare at home, the importance of a social infrastructure or support system, why health care at home isn’t the model, and how assistive technology is changing the way we can continue to live and thrive independently, helping parents with Alzheimer’s or dementia, telehealth, aging in place, long-term care insurance and so much more!

But most of all, hearts are tender, whole and complete when it comes to home. So home is ultimately where we most want to be, wherever that is – perhaps even ever-changing. But we do know that home is a place we feel loved, secure, peaceful and happy. So, while our home may change throughout -- and even over the years – perhaps our primary goal is to ensure wherever we go, or the decisions we make on behalf of others, is to live in a place we can call “The Heart of Home.”

Orsini’s business ownership began with a geriatric care management model in-home care agency, a venture that garnered her the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1996. She is the past Chair of the Private Duty Homecare Association of America and has served on the boards of the National Association for Home Care and Hospice and the National Association of Geriatric Care Managers (now Aging Life Care Professionals). In 2017, Orsini won a Lifetime Achievement in Business Award, sponsored by the Stevie Awards for Women in Business. She is also the leader, creator and host of the Help Choose Home Podcast, which focuses on educating the masses on how to and when to choose healthcare at home in later life. Professionally Isabel has over 13 years of experience working at reputable healthcare organizations in the senior living and hospice care field. She holds a Master in Public Health from the University of Maryland, College Park. She is the author of “The Value of Wrinkles” A Young Perspective on How Loving the Old Will Change Your Life.

Isabel’s family immigrated from Hong Kong and Isabel said this about her grandparents, “they offered me an additional layer of love and attention.”
