Lucien du groupe Lucien & the Kimono Orchestra rend hommage au Prince avec une mixtape exclusive pour Konbini Radio. Au programme : une heure d'accapella, d'instru et d'interludes soigneusement sélectionnées parmi l'ensemble de l'oeuvre de l'artiste.

Lucien raconte: L'idée de cette mixtape est née d'une période où j’ai décidé de me plonger dans l'univers abyssal de Prince, en passant au crible toute sa discographie du premier au dernier morceau. À l'écoute exhaustive de la cinquantaine d'albums (studio, live, side projects...) qu'il nous a laissés, on traverse avec lui 40 ans d'histoire musicale. Mais c’est dans l'ombre de l'oeuvre principale que m'est apparu un écume curieux et digne d'intérêt : les interludes ambiant, les instrumentaux épiques, les accapelas vibrants, les petits mémos-vocaux marrants. Soit autant de moments où Prince ne fait plus du Prince, mais nous raconte pourtant quelque chose d'intime sur lui.

How do you jump into the perspective of someone and make it believable?

According to author Claire Rudy Foster, the key lies in an ability to listen. There are subtle and unrefined truths of experience that drip into our conversations with others but a keen ear is needed to pick up on the what those truths really are. Foster can hear them.

In his new book Shine of the Ever, Foster melds his own experiences with gender fluidity with the stories and deep truths of other queer folx, infuses them with magic, and alchemizes them into a rich mélange of human experience. As Foster says, “We all have such nuanced perspectives, and I wanted to show that”.
