Warner Trumps Former Team Hyderabad by 7 Runs

Warner Trumps Former Team Hyderabad by 7 Runs

Delhi have picked up their second points of the season, beating Hyderabad by 7 runs in another last-ball finish, on Monday night in Hyderabad.

David Warner, returning to the ground he called home for many years, won the toss and elected to bat first but that wasn't the only big call he made. Prithvi Shaw was left out of the playing XI for the first time this season, with Sarfaraz Khan replacing him. Pushed up to open, Phil Salt didn't do much as he was out first ball. Mitch Marsh batted at 3 and made 25 as Warner ended up scoring 21 off 20 but by the fall of his wicket, the team was in trouble at 62/5 after 8 overs. Axar Patel and Manish Pandey through added 69  for the sixth wicket and scored 34 each to help the team post 144/9.

Hyderabad chase was slow with Harry Brook and Mayank Agarwal putting together 31 runs after 5 overs before Brook got out to Nortje on 7. Mayank went onto score 49 before his wicket started a bit of a trend for Hyderabad with a wicket falling in the 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th overs. In the end, 13 were needed off the last over and Mukesh Kumar conceded just 5 as Delhi won the match by 7 runs.

Rajasthan Lose to Bangalore, Still Top Table

Another last ball thriller in the Indian T20 League and this time Bangalore, finished on top, beating table-toppers Rajasthan by 7 runs for their fourth win of the season.

Rajasthan captain Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to bowl first, announcing that the team had dropped Riyan Parag for the first time this season. As Virat faced the first ball, Trent Boult trapped him lbw and one over later, he sent Shahbaz Ahmed packing as Bangalore were in trouble at 12/2 in 2.1 overs. However, after that it was a frustrating run of 12 overs where Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell stitched together a solid partnership, adding 127 runs off 66 balls for the third wicket. Once they got out, Bangalore were at 156/4 after 15 and then Rajasthan's bowlers managed to pull things back, conceding just  33 runs in the final 5 overs.

In the chase, Rajasthan also lost a wicket in the first over with Jos Buttler getting out to Siraj on a duck. Paddikal and Jaiswal then added 98 for the second wicket before David Willey broke the partnership in the 12h over as Paddikal got out on 52. Harshal Patel got Jaiswal on 47 two overs later and then Rajasthan needed 108/3 after 14 overs- 82 from 36 balls. There was some late charge from Dhruv Jurel and R Ashwin but in the end Bangalore managed to finish on tope.

Mumbai Humbled at Home by Sam Curran's Punjab

Mumbai Humbled at Home by Sam Curran's Punjab

Another last-over thriller but this game between Mumbai and Punjab lived true to that 'thriller' description with Sam Curran's Punjab collecting the two points from the win, with a 13 run victory.

Mumbai had Jofra Archer return as Rohit Sharma elected to field after winning the toss. Arjun Tendulkar started the innings by bowling a tight first over, conceding just 5, before Cameron Green sent back Matthew Short in the third over. Piyush Chawla bowled a double wicket 10th over, sending back Liam Livinstone and Atharv Taide as Punjab were in trouble at 83/4. Harpreet Singh and Sam Curran then collaborated for a 92 run stand that included a ruthless over of Arjun Tendulkar where the bowler was hit for four boundaries and two sixes - conceding 31 runs. Punjab posted a mammoth 214/8 at the Wankhede Stadium.

Mumbai's chase saw opener Rohit Sharma make a quick 44 and then Cameron Green added a handy 67. The star of the innings though was Suryakumar Yadav who was in vintage Surya form, smashing 57 from 26 but when he got to off a brilliant catch by Taide, the score was 184/4 with Mumbai needing 31 from 12.

It was Tim David and Tilak Verma then and the team needed 16 from the last 6 balls. Arshdeep Singh was handed the ball and he was all class taking out Tilak Verma and then Nehal Wadhera's mid stump.

Punjab went onto win the match by 13 runs.

Virat Captains as Bangalore Trump Punjab

Virat Captains as Bangalore Trump Punjab

Virat Kohli returned as Bangalore’s captain, just for the game, and the team marked the occasion with their third win of the season, beating Punjab in Mohali by 24 runs in Thursday’s evening fixture.

Bangalore were put in to bat first by Sam Curran and there was a mammoth 137-run opening stand by Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli. Virat and then Maxwell though both fell in the 17th over but Faf continued on, eventually getting out on 84 off 56. Only 44 runs were made in the final 5 overs, despite the solid start and Bangalore were restricted to 174/4 by Punjab.

Punjab’s chase went way off course within the powerplay itself with Taide, Short, Liam and Harpreet getting out, and the the team was 43/4 in 5.3 overs. Opener Prabhsimran Singh though gave it some life with his 46 and Jitesh Sharma threatened to get the team close to the finish line with his 41. Punjab in fact did get quite close, needing 37 from 24 balls but in the end, a double wicket over from Siraj in the 18th reduced Punjab to 149/9 and Bangalore won the match by 24 runs.

Mumbai beat Hyderabad, Win Third Straight Match

Mumbai have recorded their third straight victory of the season with a 14 run victory over Hyderabad in Match 23 on Tuesday night in Hyderabad.

Home skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and put Mumbai in to bat first. Rohit Sharma made 28, Ishan Kishan added another 38 but it was Cameron Green who came good for his team on the day - making 64 off 40 to help Mumbai post 192/5.

Harry Brook's Ton Helps Hyderabad beat Kolkata

Harry Brook's Ton Helps Hyderabad beat Kolkata

We finally welcomed the arrival of Harry Brook to the Indian T20 League! So much was riding on the English 24-year-old with Hyderabad breaking the bank to add him to their line-up during December's auction, and it took him a few matches to get used to the Indian conditions. But on Friday, against Kolkata, at the Eden Gardens, Brook was absolute class as she scored an unbeaten 100 to help Hyderabad post the season's highest total - 228/4.

Kolkata's chase was dealt an early setback with Bhuvi picking the wicket of Rahmanullah in the first over and then Marco Jansen packing off Venkatesh Iyer and Sunil Narine to reduce the team to 22/3 in 4 overs. Skipper Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh both scored half centuries and added 69 for the 6th wicket but after Rana fell on 75 off 41, looking for some big shots, the team needed 70 runs from the last 4 overs. Rinku Singh hit some big sixes but there was no encore at the Eden Gardens as lost by 23 runs.

On a flat pitch and fast outfield, Punjab were threatening to score upwards of 200, as they reached 100 runs in the first 10 overs. But Kolkata, whose bowlers majorly struggled, picked four wickets in the second half as Punjab could make only 91 runs to end up at a score nine short of 200.
