Fr. Mike highlights the works of King Cyrus, who we met yesterday, and how he is able to contribute to the will of God without actually knowing him. Cyrus not only shows us that no soul is ever too far for God's grace, but that God makes all things new, and is able to bring beautiful blessings from the most desperate situations. Today's readings are Isaiah 45-46, Ezekiel 6-7, and Proverbs 12:9-12. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Raiders and the Ark, Part II: Triumphal Entry (1 Samuel 6)

Raiders and the Ark, Part II: Triumphal Entry (1 Samuel 6)

In Part 2 of our three part "Ark Narrative" (1 Samuel 4-6), we find what becomes of the Philistines (and Indiana Jones' Nazis) once they have gained possession of the Ark of the Covenant.  Will they be able to control Almighty God once they gain control of His throne?  Or does this wild, Sovereign God have a lesson for everyone involved?

From there, we take the story to today, a special day leading up to Easter.  The similarities are as unmistakable as they are beautiful, but there's also a warning for us, the same warning as the Philistines and Israelites received: Remember Who you are dealing with here.

    The Christian's Response to Coronavirus

    The Christian's Response to Coronavirus

Isaiah 46:8-13. Continuing the series on the Christian's response to COVID-19, Pastor Richard deals specifically with the way that Christians should respond to the pandemic. While the future is uncertain and no one knows exactly what tomorrow holds, the Christian does know that God has always been faithful throughout history. When presented with reality of the Coronavirus, the Christian should remember that God knows what is going on, that he is currently working out his sovereign plan, that he has spoken to this situation in his Word, and that he has a purpose in all this.

    Isaiah 46

    Isaiah 46

I haven’t prepared a sermon today or a Bible study

What I have is more like a personal meditation
    – a thought, not so much for the analytical mind,
    • as for the thirsty, needy soul
    – depth psychology tells us that the thoughts that move us most,
    • that motivate and influence us,
    ◦ are not our most logical or even conscious thoughts
    ◦ but stories, symbols and images in our unconscious
    • for instance, what stirs a patriotic heart
    ◦ is not an essay on the philosophical government of democracy
    ◦ but seeing the American flag raised and hearing “The Star Spangled Banner”
