Dark Enigma - Creepy Island of Dolls

Dark Enigma - Creepy Island of Dolls
Please be aware the stories, theories, re-enactments and language in this podcast are of an adult nature and can be disturbing, frightening and in some cases offensive. Listener Discretion is advised – there is very adult content ahead and you have been warned.

Welcome heathens welcome to the world of the weird and unexplained. I’m your host, Nicole Delacroix and together, we will be investigating stories about the weird, wonderful, unexplained, eerie, scary and down-right unbelievable. There will be tales of ghosts, murder, supernatural beings and unexplained mysteries. So, sit back, grab your favorite drink, relax and prepare to be transported to today's dark Enigma....

And on today’s Dark I’m going to address two listener complaints. So I received 2 different emails complaining that I only focus on US based locations, and to be honest, it’s because I’m broke honey and I can’t travel internationally. And if I can’t get to a place then how can I tell a story about it? But since this was more than one person’s concern, I decided to give you all a two-fer episode with an international flair. And since we’ve been talking creepy destinations, I decided to focus on something that I think is creepy as F%$k… DOLLS. So I have two stories, both centered around dolls, and thankfully, I didn’t have to get anywhere near them. But before we dive in, we have some business to attend to. As always, we will be playing our drinking game but remember, the drinking game is only for those of us that are at home and have nowhere else to go to. Since dolls creep me the f%$k out, you get to choose your libations, but I ask that you face your fears, so today’s episode I want you to take shots of whatever alcohol you swore you’d never drink again, for me that’s Tequila. That’s right, pull out your college era sweatshirts and down the Jagger again, because these are two places you will never see Nicole’s happy a** at. Right, now for the game part… every time I say doll that’ll be a single shot and every time I say creepy, that’s a double shot.

Alright, now that we have the business end out of the way we can jump headfirst into today’s dark enigma… and creepy doll towns. And our first story is one many of us saw way back when on Destination Truth with Josh Gates: Because in the canals of Xochimilco, Mexico, there's an island covered in mutilated and dismembered dolls. The island is said to be haunted by the spirit of a girl who died in the canals, so enter if you dare.

Sometimes when people get into a religious sulk they do things like fly planes into buildings or dress their kids in white and drown them in bleach. So, in the grand scheme of wacko theological attention-seeking, when Don Julian was run out of the barrios for preaching to venerate Christ by decorating a secluded island with creepy dolls, he was actually being pretty reasonable.

6 Things To Know Around Detroit

6 Things To Know Around Detroit

    On today's show for June 18, 2019:

    - The City of Detroit is one of 10 American cities to join a new national program to figure out how to help residents make more money and improve their economic status.

    - You’ve heard of Hell, Michigan, right? it’s an unincorporated town near Pinckney in Livingston County. It’s famous for its road signs, a tavern and stores selling souvenirs branded with the community’s name. Now, a California YouTuber has purchased the whole five-acre commercial property and officially renamed it “Gay Hell” in protest of the Trump Administration.

    - The Conservatory on Belle Isle is opening nearly a month ahead of schedule.

    - A 2,500 Square Foot Premier Pet Supply is coming to the City Club Apartments near Grand Circus Park. And yes, it'll have a DIY dog wash station. We discuss.

    - A Grand Opening date has been set for the new Brooks Brewing in Ferndale. It'll be June 26th, and we talk about their unique approach to pricing their brews.

    - And finally, there's the 6th Annual Art of the Cocktail competition in downtown Ferndale on Thursday. More: http://www.downtownferndale.com/art-of-the-cocktail/

Whitmer Unveils Plan To Fix The Damn Roads, Plus A Local Makes The Voice

Whitmer Unveils Plan To Fix The Damn Roads, Plus A Local Makes The Voice

Governor Gretchen Whitmer today released her first proposed budget before a joint meeting of House and Senate appropriations committee members, and she’s targeting investments to three problem areas for Michigan: roads, K-12 schools and contamination threats to drinking water resources.

In a nutshell, the governor proposes to raise gasoline taxes in three installments of 15 cents to an extra 45 cents by October 2020. To pay for it, she’d undo some of the tax reforms championed by Gov. Rick Snyder, her predecessor.

It’s a big pill to swallow, but there can be no doubting that Michigan has racked up a massive bill all these years of kicking the can down the road.

On today’s show, we also run down some of her other proposals, including boosting funding for K-12 schools and creating a free community college program for Michigan high-school graduates.

There’s news about a new demolition contract for Joe Louis Arena, with the wrecking ball arriving this spring.

A new $30 million skilled-trades training center is planned in Detroit.

Jer also gets nerdy about the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservancy, which will be closed until July, maybe even on weekends, due to some major reconstruction work.

And a shout-out to Shelby Township’s Alena D’Amico who has made it on The Voice!
