Phil Apollo interviews author, podcaster and blogger Bob Sorrentino about his new book "Farmers and Nobles".

Farmers and Nobles traces the research path of blogger and podcast host Bob Sorrentino. Bob began researching his family roots in 2008 beginning with his great-grandfather's calling card brought from Italy by his paternal grandmother Maria Luigia Piromallo. In 2018, he decided to share his experiences in a blog and in 2020 created his podcast Italian Roots and Genealogy. ​Bob firmly believes that our ancestors want to be found and shares fascinating stories from others who believe the same.

​Bob gives us glimpse into his two Italian-American families and how their lives in America were very similar, although centuries ago the families came from two very different socio-economic classes in Italy. ​While his mother came from farmers from Toritto, Bari, his father came from gentry and nobility from Naples. Bob traces back these noble roots to the kings and queens of Western Europe. While it is true that millions can trace back, Bob explains how one small piece of evidence can open up the door to centuries of family history.

​Farmers and Nobles has stories from both families, culminating with a "rooting trip" to Italy in 2022.

If you are like me and have been doing research for many years, you may be able to translate some simple Italian Records from the Antenati.  During the course of my research a came across the last will of my 6th great uncle Gaspare De Riso.  This is a forty page document, that I could not read. So I called on my friend Elena Gissi, of E.G. Ancestryfor help.

I learned of Elena through someone that I met on the internet that was researching her family in the north of Italy.  And we did a great interview on the "Lady In Black."  Elena also did the research for an episode of "Finding Your Roots" with Louis Gates Jr., for the actor Christopher Meloni.

Elena produced an excellent report on the details of the will and this great interview.  If you need any Italian Records to be translated, I suggest to contact Elena at egancestryresearch@gmail.com and mention IG2021.

Michele Cartusciello is  a professional genealogist and enthusiast in local traditions and cultures too. My interest in family history started in 1984 when I first stepped into the Registry Office of my hometown, Padula, a beautiful medieval town located 100 km far Salerno, in Campania, Italy.

My quest to learn more about my lineage and to create my family tree led me to visit plenty of archives such as registry offices, parishes, and state archives.

My dream of a lifetime came true in 2012 when I opened the Museo del Cognome – Family History Museum.
