HOST JACKIE TANTILLO - The Doctor's Wife With Guest Hanni Myers. Looking Back At Episode S1E29

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO - The Doctor's Wife With Guest Hanni Myers. Looking Back At Episode S1E29

Being the local Doctor and the Doctor's wife was a saving grace for         Hanni's family. Shortly after the German Army entered Vienna in 1938, the family started the paperwork in trying to immigrate to Massachusetts.

It took quite a long time for them to secure all the paperwork and a job in Boston for her father, but shortly there after they were on their journey to America.

The children's book "My Two Cities" by Robin Mayers Stein with Hanni Myers has been written in verse so children  and teens can learn of the experience of this one family. What was Hanni's childhood like as an immigrant who didn't speak English when she arrived in  America . They overcame many obstacles but never gave up hope for themselves and many others

No matter how challenging, Hanni's mother and father were able to help 17 families immigrate to the United States to freedom. Some were friends or relatives, others were not. But the family never stopped trying to help others left behind in Europe.

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO - Seeing Mom With Soft Eyes with Rosjke Hasseldine. Looking Back At Episode S1E27

"There's a lot of waking up going on with woman", says Rosjke.  "Women, were expected to be  emotionally mute and not have any needs of their own."  It's sad but true, too many generations of the women caring for the family and home did not have a voice of their own.  This is one of the main causes for the miscommunication between  mother and  daughter.

Ms. Hasseldine goes on to say "to understand the mother-daughter relationship, you really need to understand how women are treated in society."

For the most part, mothers did the best they could, with what they were given. But "women have more power than what they think, "it's what we do with what we've been given" that  really matters.

The Huff Post says, "Rosjke Hasseldine is the world's pre-eminent     mother-daughter relationship expert with over 20 years listening to women and girls from around the world talk about their lives and relationships. Rosjke is the creator of the Mother-Daughter Coaching Model which uncovers and explains the hidden dynamics between mothers and daughters."

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO - Looking Back At Episode #S1E23. "I Always Knew There Was MORE Out There" -with LeQuita Vance-Watkins

My guest was a baby when her unmarried teen mom left her with her abusive grandmother for ten years, and yet she harbors no ill will toward anyone.  "i was always told, I could never do nothin right," LeQuita mentions though she seems to have done everything right.

She kept moving forward in life as though what was given her had no real consequences-she knew from a young age that there was 'more'.  "One of the many blessings is because the people I was around didn't love me and I didn't love them.  I didn't want to emulate them."

LeQuita Vance-Watkins lives in Vermont and still surrounds herself with the MORE of life, "the best of everything", the Arts.

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO - "Mom Sends me Gifts From Heaven" - with Sue Gust Fields. Looking Back at Episode #S1 E22

Her mother's strength, one of many wonderful characteristics,  helped my guest through some really tough times, including my her dad's death, job elimination, her mom's death and a divorce.  Both mother and daughter survived  big life transitions and had to reinvent themselves.

When your mother makes you feel like you're the most important person in the room, that's a great feeling. When your mom is brutally honest and tells you something she's not particularly happy with, well, maybe that's not such a great feeling. But it was so much of what has left a lasting impression on my guest.  Sue Gust Fields, to this day keeps her mother's memories very close and says her mom gives her gifts from heaven, including finding her second husband for her.

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO- Every Child Has The Right To Be Seen As A Child-with Dawn Fratangelo. Looking Back At Episode #S1 E20

Dawn and I met in college and I'm so glad we got to spend some time together to talk about her mother, Erma Jean O'Connor. Erma Jean grew up on a farm in upstate New York.  She was one of seven children, 6 girls and 1 boy and she had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh.

A no nonsense woman, Erma Jean's 3 kids were her top priority.  After time as a victim of abuse and an alcoholic husband, she left  her husband and moved back in with her parents.

At 4 years old, Dawn helped her mom as she struggled with all the challenges of being a single parent and having to go out and find a job.

Overcoming obstacles  and jumping over hurdles was the mainstay for many years but the years were filled with lots of love and laughter and Dawn  says her mom "was her most important being."

Hear excerpts from his deeply personal story "In The First Person" as well as stories of his relationship with his mother.  When it came time to tell his mom something very important,  she was in denial, yet his dad was proactive-something that Andrew didn't see coming.

Was it a mom protecting her son? Looking back, Andrew definitely had regrets . Judith always taught Andrew to 'be in the moment'.   He appreciated and embraced all the years of taking care of his mom, so when the end came, he was absolutely certain that the two had had a very loving relationship one that he still misses every day.

The Three C's-Compassionate, Calm and Caring-Looking Back At Episode #15

The Three C's-Compassionate, Calm and Caring-Looking Back At Episode #15

When Terry Viscount's parents met, his mother, Joan, was a cashier.  She never worked again till after all seven kids were out of the house. Due to necessity, she took a job helping the elderly.  That's what Joan was truly all about-she always put everyone else first before taking care of herself.  Terry credits his mom for her calm demeanor and compassion for others.  She saved her pennies wisely so she could always give a little something to others, especially around the holidays. One of her favorite things to do to relax was watch soap operas.

Terry is a captain of a laker/freighter/bulk carrying self unloader and travels through a series of locks east and west along and through the Great Lakes.

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO -Strength Of Her Daughters with Guest TV Stage Manager Kim Miller. Looking Back At S1E11

After the sudden death of her husband, left with 3 daughters, Kim Miller's mother, Anne, had to manage the reality of being a single parent in 1960.   Anne Miller was a survivor. She always taught her children  about fighting against injustices and to do whatever it took to make the world a better place.

My guest, Kim Miller, retells the stories of life under the roof with an abusive step father and how she made it her job to become the protector of the sisters and mother.

As a mother and activist herself, Kim is a long time TV Stage Manager and regularly attends peaceful protests and anti violence gatherings.

"Speaking out about issues that you are passionate about is very healing and empowering.  No one should be treated like a second class citizen", says Kim.

"Should Have Listened To My Mother" is an ongoing conversation about mothers and the roles they play in our lives. And my guests answer the question, 'are you who you are today because of, or in spite of, your mother'? You'll be amazed at what the responses are.

"Should Have Listened To My Mother" would not be possible without the generosity, sincerity and insight from my guests. In getting ready to launch my podcast, so many were willing to give their time and share their personal relationships with their mother.

Some of my guests include Baritone Singer Christopheren Nomura, Pulitzer Prize Winning Journalist Tim Wacker, Activist Kim Miller, Freighter Sea Captain Terry Viscount, Film Production Manager Peg Robinson, Professor of Writing Montclair State University Dr. Bridget Brown, Tammy Steckler, attorney and family advocate @CUNY Law; NYC First Responder/NYC Firefighter Mark Heingartner, Child and Adult Special Needs Activist, Maryellen Valyo Cole and Roger Evens, Property Manager in New Jersey and so many more talented and insightful women and men.

I've worked in the broadcasting industry for over four decades. I've interviewed so many fascinating people including musicians, celebrities, authors, activists, entrepreneurs, politicians and more.

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO - Every Kid Has Their Own Journey with Guest Attorney and Child Advocate Tamara Steckler. Looking Back at S1E10

Attorney, Tami Steckler, formerly of the Legal Aid Society in New York, finds it very comforting to have many children under her roof. That's because she and her husband are foster parents and have helped many families get back on their feet.

Tami was raised in a similar environment as a child on Long Island where her mother, also an attorney, welcomed anyone in need into their home. She's very grateful to have had such a conscientious and giving mother who taught her the value of unconditional love.

The fruit doesn't fall far from the tree.

Embracing The Simple Things In Life-Looking Back At Episode #9

Swapping dates at her High School Prom was the beginning of  wonderful love affair. Down the road however, life had a different plan. Learning from her past and relying on her life experiences has enabled Maggie to become who she is today as a therapist, helping children and  adults build from their points of strength.

What helped Maggie put one foot in front of the other in a time of crisis, were the lasting memories of her mother, Marjorie.  A constant presence, unconditional love and a great sense of humor were just a few of her mom's magical attributes that will stay with her forever.  Just knowing  her mom was always there for her gave her a sense of security, comfort and ease.

    The Doctor's Wife

    The Doctor's Wife

“My parents are supportive of me and I’ve always considered the presence of my parents a great, great, great fortune”. Stephane feels especially fortunate having had his parents support throughout his budding career.

Corinne, Stephane's mother, was a  first grade teacher in France and she was meticulous and dedicated to her  young students.  She fully supports her son's career choice and even helps out with publicity and organizing before any performances.  Corinne is her son's biggest fan.

Django Reinhardt's unique guitar style caught Stephane's heart as a teen and inspired many years of studying with  'gypsy jazz' guitar master Serge Krief and  traveling the world.

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO - Seeing Mom With Soft Eyes with Guest Mother Daughter Life Coach Rosjke Hasseldine

So much thought goes into the conversations that a mother has with her daughter about becoming a woman.  A wonderful book for adolescent and pre-adolescent girls, "The Alchemy of Womanhood",  is a wholesome and poetic take on becoming familiar with the beauty and power of your own body as a young lady.

Author, actor and director, Dolores Rice, who's husband is Andrew McCarthy, considers herself a storyteller and seeker and felt compelled to document this experience openly and with love.

Dolores shares her stories of her loving mother Margot and the difference in the non-conversations that she experienced versus the bountiful and generous conversations Dolores has had with her daughter, Willow.

"I had put my mom on a pedestal and later learned that no one is perfect, but I always knew that my mom loved me unconditionally."    "My mom thinks I'm brave just because I go on stage in front of lots of people and perform,  but she's really the brave one."

All the insight and life lessons that were passed down from McGraw's mother will be shared with McGraw's young daughter-lessons of love, obstacles and challenges and especially bravery.

"I Always Knew There Was MORE Out There"

HOST JACKIE TANTILLO - Education, Education, Education with Guests Joan Hamberg and Christopheren Nomura. Looking Back at S1E1

After recording, producing and editing 20 episodes of "Should Have Listened To My Mother", I wanted to go back and revisit where I began.  My two guests, Joan Hamberg and  Christopheren Nomura couldn't be more different-different generations, different cultural backgrounds and yet their mother's and their mother's messages were very similar.

I believe a good education is a crucial component of  happiness. So when your mother asks, did you do your homework? Please be honest. It'll all pay off in the future.

A big thank you goes to Ricky Soto, NYC based Graphic Designer, who created my logo for "Should Have Listened To My Mother".

Every Child Has The Right To Be Seen As A Child
