Jacob's Ladder
Continuing their dive into Cosmic Horror, this week our hosts watched Jacob's Ladder. Decades ahead of its time, this film pioneered the "mind-blowing ending" that would later be done to death in the late 90s / early 00s. While it left many critics scratching their heads at the time, its disturbing and imagery and ambiguity would fit right at home with today's crop of more cerebral indie horror films of the last decade.
204 Halloween Horror Watch Party 2020: Jacob's Ladder
Mourning his dead child, a haunted Vietnam War veteran attempts to uncover his past while suffering from a severe case of dissociation. To do so, he must decipher reality and life from his own dreams, delusions, and perceptions of death.
Director: Adrian Lyne
Writer: Bruce Joel Rubin
Stars: Tim Robbins, Elizabeth Peña, Danny Aiello
God Is Near (Jacob's Dream) -- Genesis 28:10-19 (Seventh Sunday After Pentecost)
In a fearful and anxious world, God is near. We consider this "nearness of God," looking to Jacob's dream of a ladder connecting heaven and earth, our own "pandemic dreams," and Celtic spirituality.
46. Genesis 28:10-22 – Blessing at Bethel
As Jacob journeys to his uncle’s house, he has a dream of a ladder stretching from earth to heaven, and he meets the LORD who blesses him. He names the place "Bethel" which means "house of God".
