As part of AMI-Audio’s coverage of the 2023 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we asked a group of our friends, regular contributors and employees with disabilities for their thoughts on the IDPD. More specifically, we asked: 1. What does the IDPD mean to you? 2. What are steps society can take to tangibly improve the lives of persons with disabilities? This is an audio collage, of sorts, showcasing nuanced approaches and differing opinions people within the community have towards the IDPD. Work needs to be done but it’s important to recognize the work that has been done as well as maintain an optimistic outlook.

On our Nutrition chat with Julia Karantjas, we talk about chilli and all it’s mighty nutrients (22:53). Maryann Kerr, CEO of the Peel Children’s Aid Foundation, chats with us about how they’re trying to help families in need this holiday season with an annual toy and clothing drive (36:50). Students and staff at a local elementary school in Medicine Hat, get the opportunity in learning about a variety of disabilities on November 30th. Community Reporter, Toni Freimark tells us more (51:15). Yang Wang joins us to talk about gender differential-introduced inequalities, and how those differences influenced socio-economic gap between genders (1:04:59). On our monthly voices segment, we chat with AMI-audio Technical Producer, Jacob Shymanski (1:19:54).

Karen and Theresa of CELA, the Center for Equitable Library Access, join us for another book review, this time for the highly-anticipated memoir, The Woman in Me, by Britney Spears. And later, Aamer Khan shares with us three authors that have piqued his interest in the past month.

This week, we finally take a moment to present our own book recommendations, in the thriller/mystery and non-fiction categories. On the second half of the show, Greg David, Communications Specialist at AMI, is subjected to the Rapid-Fire-Review segment. He also gives us his in-depth review of Rogue Heroes by Ben Macintyre.

The 30th annual Canadian Disability Hall of Fame Awards Induction Ceremony luncheon took place on October 13th, 2023, at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto.
