Cross Collaborating on the Customer Journey with James Lawson of River Consulting Group | Episode 039

James Lawson of River Consultancy Group joins us this week in a fun conversation that spans a wide range of topics including a growing sentiment among CS leaders that contributions to the customer journey should be cross collaborative in nature.

James is the founder of River Consultancy Group and currently serves as CCO at key Computer Applications Ltd. It is this along with his long history in CS that have shaped his unique and healthy outlook on CS and how CSMs specifically can best position themselves in the future.

In this episode, we cover topics including:

    •  Why CS is so prevalent in software and not as much elsewhere
    • Customer success as a company-wide capability, not just CS function
    • Internal collaboration around customer journey actions
    • Providing value at scale with the illusion of it being personal
    • Making sure we don’t forget to celebrate the success of our users and various personas
    • CSMs who have strong consultative skills will have the edge in the future
    • Storytelling on the back of data points is where humans excel and this can be supported by digital
    • Personalizing digital engagement by asking personas about their engagement preferences
    • The importance of having your product and digital motions lead with simplicity
    • Continually tweaking your ICP using internal and external indicators - especially among your smaller customers that are scaling, vs the largest customers.

Enjoy! I know I sure did...

Unveiling the Depth: Exploring the Power, Paradox, and Transformative Nature of God's Unconditional Love

Unveiling the Depth: Exploring the Power, Paradox, and Transformative Nature of God's Unconditional Love

Ever wondered why Christmas magnifies what's already present in our lives? Prepare to take a deep dive into the beauty and power of God's love, a force so profound it can transform joy and drama alike. We share timeless wisdom from our grandfather and reflect on our personal journey towards understanding the impact of God's love in our lives, a journey that began with the realization that Christmas, much like marriage, magnifies rather than fixes problems.

We're sure you've heard of the term 'unconditional love.' But do you understand the depth of God's love for us? A love so deep it's rooted in His holiness, and so vast it transcends external factors. Join us as we unravel this and discuss the concept of sin, the importance of loving one another, and how the Holy Spirit powers our transformation. Expect to discover a new perspective on God's love, one that will challenge your definitions and inspire you to love deeper.

We continue to unpack the paradox of God's love and justice, shining light on the common belief that our imperfections make us unworthy of His love. You'll be amazed as we unveil how Jesus' sacrifice bridges the gap between justice and mercy, and how His love not only accepts us as we are, but also transforms us. The journey concludes as we explore the idea of love-fueled sacrifice and service. Be inspired to trust God with your life, let His love transform you, and join the collective response to God's profound love.

Investing in Jesus: Exploring Hope, Faith, and the Personal Relationship with Christ Beyond Rigid Systems

Investing in Jesus: Exploring Hope, Faith, and the Personal Relationship with Christ Beyond Rigid Systems

Unearth the rich tapestry of hope intertwined with faith in our enlightening conversation at Pinewood. Our voyage into the realm of belief is invigorated by the astounding contributions of three CSU professors, who serve as inspiring reminders that in our unique ways, we are all missionaries. We toss around the fascinating dynamics between faith and hope, and dismantle the idea of one overpowering the other. Ambition isn't a stranger to our discourse as we affirm that having aspirations that align with our Christian values isn't just acceptable, it's encouraged.

Journey alongside us as we underscore the paramount importance of investing your trust in Jesus, rather than a rigid system. We flip back pages to the old temple worship system, a model heavily reliant on processes where a personal connection with God was largely missing. We reinforce the reliability of Jesus, cautioning against an overdependence on procedures in our churches that could potentially curb spiritual growth. As we wrap up this piece, we extend our encouragement to the trailblazers of Pinewood, reminding them that their efforts are laying the groundwork for future generations.

Gear up for a meaningful exploration into the core of what it truly means to follow Christ. We debunk the misconception that mere knowledge of Jesus suffices, stressing the significance of fostering a personal relationship with Him. We underscore the power of leaning on God instead of solely depending on our strength, and the role of love in overcoming fear. Whether it's through embracing baptism or joining a spirited church community, we extend an invite to you to take the next leap in your faith journey. As we conclude, remember, following Christ brings not just security but also a purpose to our lives.

Challenging Selfishness: Uncovering Faith, Embracing Suffering and Navigating Persecution in the Light of Jesus' Teachings

Challenging Selfishness: Uncovering Faith, Embracing Suffering and Navigating Persecution in the Light of Jesus' Teachings

You know the feeling - adversity strikes and suddenly you're at the center of your own universe. That's what happened to me during Thanksgiving week when I fell ill, and it started a chain of reflections on our inherent selfishness when faced with challenging situations. So, let's talk about it and uncover how this mindset can shake our faith, pushing us to question God's provision, protection, and power.

Moving on, imagine yourself as a first-century Jewish person, hearing Jesus' teachings for the first time. His words on being blessed when persecuted - surely that's not something we’d choose. Yet, it's crucial we understand the parameters of real persecution and the role of organizations like Open Doors in supporting the persecuted church. As we unpack Jesus' words in Matthew 5:10-12, let's rethink our understanding of God and strive to rise above our selfish tendencies.

Lastly, we delve into the importance of embracing suffering and the strength found in selflessness. We'll discuss why it's crucial to embrace suffering, including the powerful reminder that when we're persecuted for our faith, we're in illustrious company. And remember, Jesus is our ultimate example who perfectly embodied the Beatitudes. Let's learn to live with a resilient spirit and a compassionate heart, taking the world's jabs but responding with God's love. In the face of darkness, we can still commit to following Jesus and trust in the promise of resurrection. So, join us as we journey through these reflections, challenging our perceptions, and strengthening our faith. Remember, it's in the struggle that we truly grow.

Embracing the Prodigal: Exploring Forgiveness, Redemption, and the Unbroken Bond of Love

Embracing the Prodigal: Exploring Forgiveness, Redemption, and the Unbroken Bond of Love

Imagine being abandoned, betrayed, and your relationships falling apart. Now envision a world where, no matter the magnitude of our own deeds, we are perpetually embraced by a Father whose love never falters. That's the promise we explore in this episode, as we take a deep dive into the parable of the Prodigal Son, probing its teachings on abandonment, betrayal, and the irrevocable bond of love. We reflect on the notion that our real worth as Christ followers is not defined by our actions, but by the strength of our character.

Let's go on a journey where we keenly observe the Prodigal Son's reckless choices, his father's compassionate authority, and the elder brother's struggle with forgiveness. As we grapple with the grim consequences of our choices and decisions, we also discover the power of grace and compassion, as mirrored in the father's response to his prodigal son. Ultimately, isn't that what the Holy Spirit offers us too — a chance to turn around, repent, and be restored?

And, what about the elder brother's resentment? It's a stark reminder of our own struggles with forgiveness. Yet, as we ponder Jesus’ teachings, we find hope in the idea of Him being the perfect mediator, ready to intercede and restore. We also take a moment to appreciate Rembrandt's depiction of this powerful parable, capturing the raw emotions of each character, further deepening our understanding. So let's listen, reflect, and pray together as we navigate these timeless teachings and seek a closer relationship with Jesus.

Trusting the Extraordinary: An Exodus Journey and Embracing God's Guidance in Life's Big Moments

Trusting the Extraordinary: An Exodus Journey and Embracing God's Guidance in Life's Big Moments

Ever felt overwhelmed by life's big moments? Remember the first time you held your newborn or when you stood in front of a crowd to deliver a speech? The fear, the pressure, the excitement - it's a whirlwind of emotions. Today, we'll share some of my personal experiences and how leaning into the Lord during these moments made all the difference.

Join us as we journey through the powerful narrative of Exodus 19, where ordinary people encounter the extraordinary God on Mount Sinai. Listen to the epic tale of when God descended onto the top of the mountain, revealing Himself to the Israelites, and calling them to be his treasured possession. This momentous event, a testament to God's faithfulness, forever changed the course of human history. Wander through the multifaceted story, analyzing the profound instructions God gave to Moses and the Israelites, and marveling at the grace and mercy God had already extended to His people.

As we unspool the story further, our guests, Jeff and Lauren Case, share their experience that resonates with the trajectory of the Israelites. Their move to South Carolina echoes stepping into the unknown with faith and witnessing God's faithfulness in their lives. Dwell on how they, like the Israelites, learned to trust God with their future, letting Him guide their lives. Will their story inspire you to do the same? Will you accept the invitation to the eternal life that Jesus offers? Let's explore together.

Unfolding Grace, Hope, and Resilience: A Christian Perspective

Unfolding Grace, Hope, and Resilience: A Christian Perspective

Ever found yourself drawn to the resilience of a creature as small as an African dwarf frog? Then you're due for a journey of discovering hope in the most unlikely places as we welcome Zach and Marley Hart, who come highly recommended for the position of youth pastor at our campus. Through their story and the unusual tale of African dwarf frogs, we unpack the concept of resilience and how hope thrives even under the most challenging circumstances.

Ever thought about what it means to be born again? We delve into Jesus' conversation with Nicodemus in John 3, where we learn that our sin doesn't define us. Instead, faith in Jesus offers a fresh start, a rebirth that brings us into a new life. This episode doesn't stop there, we also explore the idea of living hope - a hope that, like an African dwarf frog, can thrive under any circumstance. Inspired by Peter's words about the resurrection of Jesus, we share how this hope is resilient and not dependent on outcomes or circumstances.

Ever wondered why God loves us, and how Jesus loves us? We tackle these profound questions and go on to examine how we receive from Jesus, using the life story of CS Lewis as our guide. We look at the concept of grace, which sets Christianity apart from other belief systems, and how we can live in this grace. As we close in prayer, we wish for all our listeners a renewal of hope and that all praise, honor, and glory be to Jesus. Let's uncover these truths together and learn how to live with a living hope, anchored in Jesus, and filled with His spirit. Tune in and be enlightened!

Answering the Divine Call: Transforming Lives through Humility, Faith, and Courage in Service

Answering the Divine Call: Transforming Lives through Humility, Faith, and Courage in Service

Have you ever considered what it truly means to answer God's call? To place your 'yes' on the table and live your life as a living sacrifice? This is the challenging but rewarding journey we embark upon with our guest, Brian Burton, an ordained minister and worship team member at the Pinewood campus. Through his personal experiences, we explore how God can call us to serve in the most unexpected places and times.

We delve into an in-depth analysis of the book of Romans, particularly chapter 12, and how it implores us to prioritize our commitments to God above all else. Drawing inspiration from biblical figures such as Moses, we discuss the importance of responding to God's call with humility and faith, even when it feels overwhelming. Moreover, we reflect on the role of community in our spiritual journey and how we, as a body of believers, are empowered to accomplish extraordinary feats through God's strength.

As we move towards the end of the episode, our focus shifts towards the practical application of these teachings in our daily lives. Utilizing the wisdom in 1 Corinthians 12, we discuss how we can honor God by using our God-given gifts to serve. Additionally, we confront the trials of being a living sacrifice and how our doubts and fears can sometimes impede our trust in God. We conclude by inviting you to contemplate how to respond to God's call and how to fully commit to Him. Join us as we seek faith, courage, and boldness to surrender our lives to God, plant our roots in the church, and publicly declare our faith.

Ascent to Faith: Trust in Transition, Building Altar and the Seasons of Growth

Ascent to Faith: Trust in Transition, Building Altar and the Seasons of Growth

Remember the euphoric feeling we experienced during our first youth retreat conference? How the mountain air seemed to hold a sacred whisper, a divine presence? We're taking you back to those transformative moments as we explore the concept of God meeting His people on mountains. Drawing wisdom from Isaiah 2:3, we'll accompany the men of the Old Testament on their ascents and delve into God's revelations.

Ever feel like you've stepped off Noah's Ark, into a world vastly different from what you've known? Trusting God during these seismic shifts in life can be challenging, yet it holds the potential for profound growth.

As we journey forward, we also learn the importance of establishing a spiritual foothold. Building an altar, in response to God's call, becomes our tangible way of etching His grace into our lives. We'll chat about how our church has built its own "altar," through increasing worship attendance, life group participation, and growing generosity. Together, let's celebrate God's goodness and His lasting impact on our church community. So, are you ready to climb the mountain, face the flood, and build an altar with us? It's a journey well worth taking.

Anchored in Faith: The Pursuit of Revival Through God's Word

Anchored in Faith: The Pursuit of Revival Through God's Word

Have you ever pondered on the transformative power of chasing revival and the divine favor it extends? Ever wondered what it takes to step out in faith, much like Nehemiah did when faced with adversities, and pursue God's divine plan? Join us on an inspiring journey as we explore these questions and more.

We start off, drawing upon the powerful narrative of Ezra in Chapter 9, observing the divine grace in his life and how this blessing can extend to others, offering them the courage to chase revival. We learn from Nehemiah's brave journey to Jerusalem, despite external and internal threats, embodying an inspiring lesson in perseverance and faith, and how it can be mirrored in our personal pursuits. Further, we unpack the hunger for the Word of God, essential for revival, and how it stands as our guide, equipping us for good works, drawing from the story of Ezra, Matathiah, Nehemiah and the Levites.

Moving on, we delve into the intersection of worship and confession. Using the story of Cleopas and his companion on the Emmaus journey, we unveil how scripture reveals the presence of Jesus, further emphasizing the significance of anchoring our lives in the Word of God. We wrap up with an earnest call to prayer, imploring listeners to pray for revival, to begin within us, in our hearts, and to spread out into the world. As we conclude, we affirm our faith in the potential of ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things through His Spirit and encourage everyone to stay devoted to God, love His word, live in worship, and build a community around the name of Jesus.

Redefining Blessings: The Life of Ezra, God's Grace, and The Power of His Word

Redefining Blessings: The Life of Ezra, God's Grace, and The Power of His Word

Be prepared to redefine your understanding of blessings as we explore the life of Ezra, a biblical figure who experienced God's favor in profound ways. We delve into the authentic significance of being blessed, moving beyond its pop-culture hashtag interpretation to uncover its spiritual depth. Discover what it means to live under God's good hand and how His blessings can manifest in the ordinary and extraordinary moments of our lives.

Exposure to adversity doesn't negate the presence of blessing. Drawing inspiration from Ezra's life, we shed light on the misconception that God's blessings mean a life devoid of obstacles. Instead, we reveal how God's grace, mercy, and kindness can be found in every juncture of our journey, even during the most testing times. As we navigate through the highs and lows, God's goodness continues to be at work, bringing salvation and deliverance.

Lastly, we turn our focus to how God's blessings flow into our lives. By looking at the life of Jesus Christ, we affirm that understanding and living under the authority of God's word can open us up to His divine blessings. Our reflections on Ezra's obedience and dedication to God's teachings reiterate the importance of immersing ourselves in God's word. By doing so, not only do we thrive in His love, but we also become conduits of His blessings for others. So, let's embark on this journey of discovery, enriching our understanding of God's blessings and their transformational impact on our everyday lives.

The Transformative Power of Love: Lessons from a Grandfather's Legacy and the Gospel

The Transformative Power of Love: Lessons from a Grandfather's Legacy and the Gospel

Losing my grandfather recently has been a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have on the lives of others. A man who spent his life serving Jesus and loving people, his ability to connect with others and spread love inspires me to explore the power of the gospel to bring people together in a divided world. This heartfelt episode examines how the gospel can overcome evil and spread love and acceptance among all people, no matter their differences.

Drawing from Romans 12, we discuss the practical wisdom Paul provides for living a godly life and loving others genuinely. As we examine our actions and attitudes, we learn how to love our neighbors by going beyond what is expected and showing them honor. This sermon emphasizes that if we have been changed by the love, grace, and mercy of God, then our lives should reflect this transformation internally and externally.

Finally, we delve into the importance of making peace and overcoming evil in our relationships. Inspired by my grandfather's life and the teachings of Jesus, we discover how to show love to our enemies and rely on the power of love to overcome evil in the world. Join us as we reflect on the incredible power of the gospel and the importance of living a life full of love and genuine connections.
