104 - Richmond, Va James River Shad Fishing 101 with Andrew Knight

104 - Richmond, Va James River Shad Fishing 101 with Andrew Knight

On this exciting episode of Fishing the DMV, I have on Andrew Knight owner & founder of RVA James River Fishing Report website. We talk about the James river shad run that takes place in the heart of Richmond, Virginia. Richmond has way more fishing opportunities than I ever imagined and Andrew breaks it all down for us!

Andrew grew up living minutes from Pony Pasture and has spent over 15 years wading through the James for smallies. Andrew learned how to fish for smallmouth by casting green Yamamotos all summer long but discovered fly fishing while in school at Virginia Tech. He fell in love with the sport and spent a summer and fall working as a fly fishing guide at the A Bar A Ranch in Southern Wyoming. While he favors fly fishing for most conditions, he loves all styles of fishing and still spin fishes to keep his pops happy…and because sometimes you just have to cover water quickly.

    True Founding of America

    True Founding of America

1607, and in the wilderness of Virginia, a tiny, pallisaded fort containing some one hundred English settlers clings on grimly and awaits salvation and resupply. Beset by internal feuds and attacks by the local Indians, the outpost continues to endure.  Theirs is a tale of stoicism and woe.  A relentless period of endurance and fear.

Conditions become so terrible that some are driven to eat their own compatriots and the worst offenders are burnt at the stake by authorities desperate to maintain control.  Outside, the Indians prowl with their turkey spur arrowheads and bone spears.  Should the settlers fall into their hands, they face being jointed and flayed alive with sharpened mussels shells.  This is the story of the first European colony in North America.
