    THE RING (1998 & 2002) Episode 8: All's Well That Ends's Well

    THE RING (1998 & 2002) Episode 8: All's Well That Ends's Well

WoHo's This week we watched "Ringu" from Japan and "The Ring" from the US.

We had a little technical difficulty just at the end of the discussion between Mom and Mac. For the record, Mom is permanently scarred by the horse scene in "The Ring" and we both gave the remake 3 video tapes and the orig 4 video tapes although we thought there were definite problems with both movies (and that both were pretty great, too).

We hope you enjoyed our special guests Aaron and Andy. Thanks, guys!

Look for your favorite International Horror Podcast in the new year and stay tuned for a big announcment regarding Season 2 coming up next week!

If you want to watch along with us for next week, we are watching "The Last Ones Out", "The House on Willow Street" and "The Soul Collector" from South Africa.

Vintage|WC: Gion Bayashi (A Geisha) 1953 (dir. Kenji Mizoguchi) Rated PG
One of Mizoguchi's post-war films, A Geisha is a scathing account of the difficulties suffered by geisha and prostitutes in maintaining and balancing their dignity, livelihood, and personal rights. It has been widely lauded by critics as a poignant, elegant work, sympathetically exploring controversial issues of rights and dignity for women with socially restricted claims to self-determination. A Geisha secured the 1954 Blue Ribbon Awards for Best Supporting Actor, awarded to Eitarō Shindō for his portrayal of Eiko's father, and for Best Supporting Actress, awarded to Chieko Naniwa for her role as Okimi. Masterpiece|WC: Tony Takitani 2004 (dir. Jun Ichikawa) Rated U
This Japanese film directed by Jun Ichikawa is based on the short story by Haruki Murakami. In it a reclusive illustrator (Issei Ogata) falls in love with a young woman (Rie Miyazawa) who addictively shops for clothing. Haruki Murakami was intrigued by the name Tony Takitani when, at a garage sale on Maui, he found a yellow T-shirt that said, "Tony Takitani, House (D)." At the time, Takitani was running for office. Murakami decided to write the man's life story as this novel. Stream online: https://amzn.to/2XHMxlW Become a Patron: https://www.patreon.com/mfrbooksandfilm?fan_landing=true

WC|Vintage: Hanzo The Razor Trilogy 1972-74 (dir. Kenji Misumi, Yoshio Inoue, Yasuzo Masumura) Rated 18
Hanzo the Razor (かみそり 半蔵? Kamisori Hanzō) is a fictional character featured in the trilogy of Japanese chanbara films of the same name. The films star Shintaro Katsu as the title character. He also produced the trilogy through his own Katsu Productions. After the decline of Daiei at the end of the 1960s, Shintaro Katsu established his own independent production company in 1967 called Katsu Productions. In 1972, Katsu Productions released the chanbara film triology with the Hanzo the Razor: Sword of Justice based on a gekiga by Koike Kazuo. The series is about a law enforcer, during the Edo who interrogates female victims with his large penis.
