Jason Kenney, 18th Premier of Alberta

The Herle Burly was created by Air Quotes Media with support from our presenting sponsor TELUS, as well as CN Rail.

Alright you holiday Herle Burly-ites, welcome to our last pod of the year. We’ll be back week of January 8th , 2024, as I’m heading to my prairie homeland during the break for a little L-H-R in R time. That’s a Herle acronym for Lemon Hart Rum in Regina time. But getting back to today’s show …

This is just a fantastic way to send out our podcasting year: Jason Kenney is our guest! The 18th Premier of Alberta. Former Leader of the United Conservative Party and the last leader of the Alberta PC Party. MP for the Reform Party and Canadian Alliance. And a multi-portfolio Cabinet Minister for Prime Minister Harper’s Conservatives from 2006 to 2015. Just a highly distinguished political career. Which is where you might expect me to take the bulk of this conversation. Except that, I won’t.

Instead, today I want to talk to Mr. Kenny about the Conservative movement and modes of thinking on a larger scale and on a number of issues. Global Affairs. Russia and Ukraine. China. Israel and Gaza. Climate Change and different ways to grapple with it. The future of the U.S. Republican Party, and more.

Thank you for joining us on #TheHerleBurly podcast. Please take a moment to give us a rating and review on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts or your favourite podcast app.

    The Great! Replacement Theory

    The Great! Replacement Theory

You’ve heard of “The Great Replacement Theory “right?

No? Let me rephrase that… you’ve heard of the right’s great replacement theory… correct? Right?

The Jews and other democratic elites are trying to change the electorate by importing immigrants who will vote for democratic policies, like big government spending. Cuz we all know how the Jews like big spending right?

Tucker Carlson, George Soros on line one  from Martha's Vineyard.

Why is it so hard to unite the right in Alberta?

Why is it so hard to unite the right in Alberta?

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says he will resign as leader of the United Conservative Party following the results of his leadership review. He received support from 51.4 per cent of party members.

Carrie Tait, a Calgary-based reporter in The Globe’s Alberta bureau, explains that while a few frontrunners have emerged to replace Kenney, uniting the right in the province remains a difficult road.

SMT - From The Monarchy to The Ontario Election to Donald Trump

Not exactly a potpourri edition of SMT but close as Bruce Anderson joins in on the conversation you love to hear.  The image of Prince Charles reading the Speech from the Throne in Westminster yesterday gives us all reason to pause.  Plus a new poll on Ontario, a court decision in Alberta, and Elon Musk on Trump and Twitter.

What if they held an election and nobody ran?

What if they held an election and nobody ran?

A footnote to low election turnouts.  And then, when will Alberta recover from its COVID disaster?  Can Jason Kenney survive the pandemic?  No province has escaped the COVID challenge but Alberta has had a worse time than anywhere.   Today we try to answer the question: What the heck is happening to Alberta?

Guiding us through the story from Calgary is a friend of The Bridge and fellow podcaster, the CBC's Kathleen Petty of "West of Centre".

S02E17 More "Cases" But No Evidence Presented in Court

S02E17 More "Cases" But No Evidence Presented in Court

Alberta currently has the highest number of covid "cases" in North America, based on dubious PCR tests. The government uses these meaningless numbers to justify further violating the Charter rights and freedoms of citizens. Coincidentally (or not), the Justice Centre is in Alberta court challenging the lockdown, with the first two days of the trial of Pastor James Coates and GraceLife Church now concluded. In court, government did not produce any medical or scientific evidence to try to justify its Charter-violating lockdown measures; after 13 months of lockdowns the government isn’t ready yet. As an added bonus, at the end of the podcast we replay John's Calgary rally speech from May 4.

Canada’s provincial and federal governments had a bad week on the Covid file, as increasing case numbers, leading to increased lockdowns and fines, are revealing their restrictions don’t seem to be working. Smoke Mirrors and the Truth -- Is The End Of Oil On The Horizon?

A major international oil company says it has started to decrease oil production and won't be turning back.  Does this signal a major change in the world's dependence on oil? And what does it mean for Canadian oil producers.  The first of a two part Smoke Mirrors and The Truth look at the energy world -- this week oil, and next week electric vehicles.

Ep. 47 Provinces Steamroll the Charter

Ep. 47 Provinces Steamroll the Charter

Governments across the country are bringing in harsh lockdown measures even though our health care system is not in danger of being overrun.  Canadians are wondering whether they have any real rights at all.  How does the Charter apply to this situation?  What is the Justice Centre going to do about this, and when?  We then look at an interesting court case, coming up December 2-4, that may end up repealing the current Federal Child Support Guidelines and replacing them with a more fair way to assign child support obligations following divorce.
