What Does the Bible Say About Leadership?

What Does the Bible Say About Leadership?

I learned recently that whenever the New Testament talks about leadership, it never emphasizes the authority of the leader. It emphasizes the danger of their own leadership. Interesting right?

It was encouraging to me because I was doubting my own abilities even as a man and a leader professionally and personally. Culture is telling me to be essentially to be a leader is to serve myself by either being super assertive, authoritative, to railroad others out of the way to get what I want.

Man, I’m so glad that God and His word and truth never changes with the culture. It has been the same yesterday, today and forever. The problem is not His Word, its US it’s our mangled misinterpretation.  It's us wanting to fit Him into our box.

The Hebraic Concept of "Midah Keneged Midah" or What Goes Around Comes Around!

The Hebraic Concept of "Midah Keneged Midah" or What Goes Around Comes Around!

Everything we do, from the smallest to the greatest, has consequences. Sometimes we get blessed, but all too often, the payback can be somewhat uncomfortable, if not unbearable. Culturally it's called "what goes around comes around," the ancient sages called it "measure for measure." What does the Bible say about this? Join us and find out.

The Parables of Jesus | The Challenge of the Lost Coin

The Parables of Jesus | The Challenge of the Lost Coin
We conclude this sermon series studying the parables of Jesus with pastor Marty teaching through Luke 15 on the parable of the lost sheep and coin. The framework to view this parable through is the truth that Jesus is keenly aware of people’s loneliness, and he is willing to go to great lengths to save those who are lost. We as believers should be less concerned with our religion, and more concerned with seeing the lost found. As the world becomes more dark, our temptation is to become more religious. This goes against what Jesus is teaching, that we, now more than ever, need to become more like him and see the lost like never before. Our job as Christians in daily life should not be pointing to ourselves in boast, but listening and loving others and pointing them to Christ. Do you feel conviction for the lost, or conviction about your lack of concern for the lost? Are you constantly aware of the loneliness and sadness in people around you? Have you gotten out of your comfort zone and talked to someone about Jesus lately? What a reminder for us, that salvation is just a point in the journey, but evangelism is a process, and we get to be a part of it as God works in peoples lives. Take time to participate in the lost coin challenge, and as you seek for him to do something in you, he will do something through you. The Sermon on the Mount | Kingdom Choices

The Sermon on the Mount | Kingdom Choices
In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus instructs us not to store up treasures on earth, but to store them in heaven, where they can’t be destroyed or stolen. What does this passage mean, and how do we store treasures in heaven? Pastor Matt takes us further in the sermon on the mount, where we explore Jesus’ words about what we value and our foundational choices as we live kingdom lives. The things that we adore in our hearts are what we treasure, and its an indication of what we value above our relationship with God. We also see in this bible study that our eye is the window to the soul, and its also the window between the internal and external life. When we choose God over our possessions, then God is our master, not the things we want, because the issue is not what we have, but what and who controls us. If we treasure earthly possessions, then they possess us, and God is not the King of our hearts. This may seem like a slant on wealth, but it isn’t. Being rich is not a sin, it’s letting the love of our earthly treasures take place in our lives over God that is a sin. What treasures are you storing up here on earth that are possessing and controlling you? If you want to take the next step and ask God for forgiveness and to change your heart, then great! We’d love to answer any questions or pray along with you – burnthickroy.com/next

What We Can Learn From New Patches and Old Wine Skins | Gary Hay | Sunday, July 21st. 2019

What We Can Learn From New Patches and Old Wine Skins | Gary Hay | Sunday, July 21st. 2019
Jesus used this analogy to address the concerns of some religious people who were apparently offended. Their issues centered around the fact that He was not leading His disciples to follow some traditional practices they believed godly people should observe. While these words were originally directed to the individuals who confronted Him, they are also meant to burn a truth into our own hearts that we dare not forget!
