Brian Stynes - Chats about Life, Football, Australia and Jim
Brian and Jim Stynes were prominent Irish footballers known for their GAA and Aussie rules achievements. This week Brian chats about his young life in Dublin, his early influences, and the opportunity to play professionally in Melbourne. He tells us why he returned to Dublin in 1994 to play for the Dublin senior team and achieved a personal goal of winning an All-Ireland medal in 1995. This proved to be the highlight of his football career and he shares this story with us. Brian and Jim were best friends as well as brothers. We chat about how Jim became the gold standard in the AFL, recording 264 appearances for Melbourne. Brian had his own stint with Melbourne and he talks about being drafted by Melbourne, playing professionally for 4 years, and what that meant to him. His whole family including his mother, father, brother, and sisters now live in Melbourne which has become their home. Sadly Jim passed away in 2012 from cancer., Brian talks to us about this, his legacy, and how much Jim meant to him.
