History of the New York Jets episode.2: "Broadway" Joe era (1965-1977)

Hello everyone, Today I talk about the "Broadway" Joe Namath era of the New York Jets and how the team built around him to win Super Bowl 3 against the Baltimore Colts. After that, the Jets would go down a long stretch of losing seasons due to Namath's knees and the team being gutted after the Super Bowl 3 victory. The Jets would later cut Joe Namath in 1977 and he would then go to the Los Angeles Rams but would retire after the season. History of the New York Jets episode.1: Origins of the team

History of the New York Jets episode.1: Origins of the team

Hello everyone. today I talk about the New York Jets' early years in the AFL and how owner Harry Wismer claimed to be everything he wasn't. First, the Jets were called the Titans why well we don't really know why. But later in the 60s, the AFL would be done with Wismer and sell to a five-man ownership group led by David "Sonny" Werblin. After they hired Weeb Ewbank to be the coach the team took on a new name the Jets. They would also move to the Shea Stadium in 1964 and with that, they would end the season with the first overall pick in the 1965 AFL draft which they would later pick Joe Namath AKA Broadway Joe. But that is for episode 2 which will be on Tuesday. Thank you all for the amazing support.

Would you buy a Medicare Advantage plan from Joe Namath? Or anybody else?

Would you buy a Medicare Advantage plan from Joe Namath? Or anybody else?
Before you answer, your first question might be “what’s a Joe Namath?” or “what’s this Medicare Advantage thing?” If you are of a certain age, and like (or hate) professional football, you will know that Joe was a very famous, successful college and professional quarterback. Now he is best known for TV commercials telling seniors how to get the most out of Medicare. And he is not alone. The FEHB open season runs through Dec. 13. so there is still plenty of time to compare plans, in addition to your current carrier, and compare their premiums, benefits, drug coverage and physician network. For folks trying to navigate the world of Medicare and FEHB benefits, it is even more complicated. Unless you have an expert at hand which, if you are reading this, you do. Spoiler alert: I am not the expert. Not even close. But I know who is. That would be Walton Francis, long-time editor of Checkbook’s Guide to Federal Health Plans. And he’s going to be my guest today on Your Turn.

Staying home is great but sometimes you have to leave home to have a great adventure. Plenty of people who have been born and raised in Western PA went on to have  great success elsewhere. In this episode we will look at the sports stars and personalities who went on to have most of their success elsewhere.

“I liked to hang around the bench and see what the coach was doing” he’d once recalled. Eddie knew what he wanted to become. The dye was cast. He’d graduate in 1937 from McKinley High School in Baton Rouge, and then would play quarterback while earning his bachelor’s in English at Leland College in Baker, Louisiana. Eddie would later earn his master’s degree from the University of Iowa in 1954.
