    The Untouchables & Public Enemies

    The Untouchables & Public Enemies
In this edition of Overlapping Dialogue, we make off with a load of fat greenbacks that turn out to be counterfeit junk with 1987's The Untouchables and 2009's Public Enemies. Though both films have generated healthy followings over the years, we take issue with their approaches to and executions of the crime genre, a medium we have particular passions for. Also, there's no Blue Plate Special this time but have no fear, we made a whole meal out of the cinematic dumpsters we're highlighting. Feel free to lock us up after this one and throw away the key: it's our story and we're sticking to it. Ep. 33 Public Enemies

    Ep. 33 Public Enemies

This week on Scene Stealers "We're having too good a time today. We ain't thinking about tomorrow." That's at least the way we do it when it's Public Enemies Week. Leo and Charles can not wait to "Crack the Safe" and talk about Michael Mann's 2009 gangster film. Before they do, however, they go "Into the Vault" to talk about Jurrasic Park 3 and Forrest Gump. But the real highlight is talking about Public Enemies. It's our first Michael Mann heist movie and won't be the last. We're just glad we get to talk about the rise of gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, and Pretty Boy Floyd. It's Christian Bale versus Johnny Depp. It's Chicago Gangsters. It's Michael Mann. It's Scene Stealers!

John Dillinger. Public Enemy Number One.

John Dillinger. Public Enemy Number One.

Between 1933 and 1934,  a man and his gangs robbed their way thru twenty-four banks and four police stations across the midwest. He was arrested and put in jail and prison several times. He escaped twice. He was charged, but not convicted of a murder, and he was adored by the public for his personality and charm. When his crime spree came to an end, he’d changed the landscape of the Bureau of investigation—soon to be the FBI—forever. He’d stolen over seven million dollars in today’s money, but that was nothing compared to what the FBI spent trying to catch him.  In the end, he was shot and killed on the streets of Chicago—or was he? This is the story of famed gangster, John Dillinger. Public Enemy Number One.

What was happening inside Ford that night?

The OJ Simpson chase happened more than 25 years ago, and yet there are still a lot of questions about its impact. For the first time ever we take you inside Ford to discover what was happening that night: Inside a Ford factory, Inside the Ford Call Center, and inside the Chairman’s office. It’s all in an effort to answer the question, “Why did Ford kill the Bronco?”

It turns out there is one suspect no one ever considered: A group of people that had nothing to do with the Bronco during its first two decades. Is it possible that the biggest threat the Bronco would face during its incredible run would be….. Millennials?

184 - John Dillinger: Public Enemy Number One

184 - John Dillinger: Public Enemy Number One

John Dillinger. J Edgar Hoover named him America's public enemy #1 for a reason. Dude LOVED to rob a bank. John lived and robbed during arguably the best time to be a gangster in America's history. Pretty Boy Floyd, Baby Face Nelson, Bonnie and Clyde, Machine Gun Kelly - America was full of people not afraid to walk into a bank with a gun and demand some money. And if the cops showed up, they weren't laying down their guns. It seemed like everyone was robbing banks in the early 1930s. Why? Partially, because of the Great Depression. Partially because of different laws and a different level of law enforcement. It was easier to rob banks back then, easier to take on the cops, and easier to get out of prison if you got caught. Sticks ups, prison breakouts, and more explored in this action-packed edition of Timesuck. Take your mind off your troubles for a few hours and enjoy this free content!
