John Kim AKA The Angry Therapist on finding Self, the power of Coaching and how motorcycles, CrossFit and donuts made it all better

Paul sits down with The Angry Therapist, John Kim, LMFT to talk about finding Self, the power of Coaching and how motorcycles, CrossFit and donuts made it all better.

In a departure from the usual format, Paul sets up the interview by sharing his very personal connection to one of John’s books (I Used to Be a Miserable F*ck) and how it helped him during an extremely dark time*. Spoiler alert: there’s a happy ending for everyone on this episode.

John Kim, LMFT, (AKA The Angry Therapist) and co-founder of Lumia, pioneered the online life coaching movement. A decade ago, John Kim's divorce led to his total re-birth and he became an unconventional therapist and life coach by working out of the box and growing his audience of like-minded people from the ground up. John's books The Angry Therapist’s No BS Guide to Finding and Living Your Own Truth, I Used to Be a Miserable F*ck: An Everyman's Guide to a Meaningful Life and Single. On Purpose. have inspired thousands to change their lives.

My good friend Dené Logan joins us for a second round on Starve the Ego Feed the Soul and this time we focus around masculine and feminine energy dynamics, patriarchy, shadow parts of the masculine and feminine, and interdependence and why she believes that this is the holy grail for where we should be focusing our interpersonal work.

What Dené and I discuss applies to all relationships. Specifically the relationship we have with ourselves and the relationships we engage in with others. Truly I can't think of a better episode to launch in conjunction with my Build Better Relationships Course.

Dené is a practicing therapist, podcast host, retreat facilitator, writer, mother, and all around incredible human-being who is doing the work herself. I always enjoy my conversations with Dené and I'm happy to have her back on the show.

Resentment Is Your Gateway - Vanessa Bennett, LMFT, RYT

It's been 2 weeks of transition for me and I'm glad to be back with y'all. I'm honored to have Vanessa Bennett on the show this week.

Vanessa is a Psychotherapist, Mindfulness & Codependency Coach, and Cohost of the Cheaper Than Therapy Podcast, which I had the pleasure of being a guest on last week.

Our conversation primarily focuses around narcissism and codependency, but delves into other nuances within inner child work and relationship dynamics between men  and women.

I really enjoyed conversing with Vanessa on all the above topics and her well-spoke and to the point demeanor is a refreshing blast of reality.

Be sure to head to her website https://www.vanessabennett.com/ and check out here social accounts https://www.instagram.com/vanessasbennett/

Also tune into the Cheaper Than Therapy Podcast via Spotify and Apple and be sure to listen to the episode where here and Dene Logan interview me on a bit of my background and how I got into the work I'm currently doing!

As always, you are appreciated for being here.

    Be well,
    n

Hey to all you souls out there, thank you for being here. I start off this episode with a bit of a ramble on my current experiences and feelings, hopefully you get something out of that!

This week's guest is a phenomenal therapist and mindfulness coached based out of Los Angeles, California. I first met Dené through some of John Kim's shares (@theangrytherapist). Since then I have had the pleasure of connecting and chatting with her on a few occasions.

In this episode we talk about so much from singlehood, to breakups, to building conscious partnerships, to self accountability, to self-harm, and so much more. It really is jam-packed with some very deep conversation and I hope you leave with more than when you came.

Dené Logan is a therapist and mindfulness coach, a yogini, a tenacious wisdom seeker, and a California soul through and through. In her work with clients, she is known for her nurturing presence and authenticity. She specializes in offering tools for reclaiming the self we’ve been conditioned to abandon throughout our lives, moving through anxiety, understanding our addictive patterns and communicating more effectively in our relationships. She is passionate about facilitating group immersive experiences and retreats. Dené is also co-host of the podcast, Cheaper than Therapy.

When you're trying to manage stress levels, tapping into simple strategies can make a big difference. In this week's minisode, John Kim of The Angry Therapist talks to us about why we're feeling worried, and what we can do about it. He touches on why getting some exercise can help structure your day, why a flow state can be the best kind of distraction, and how we can use this time to connect with audiences online. It's self-care for the shelter-in-place entrepreneur.
