    Minuteman Report – Washington Air Guardsman Awarded Silver Star
    Washington Air National Guardsman, Tech. Sgt. Tavis Delaney, a Joint Terminal Attack Controller from the 116th Air Support Operations Squadron, was awarded the Silver Star for actions he took during a reconnaissance mission on May 25, 2011 while deployed to Afghanistan. Hundreds of enemy fighters had completely surrounded his platoon and Delaney, who was responsible for coordinating aircraft strikes, had to communicate exact enemy locations. Delaney is only the third Washington National Guardsman to win a Silver Star since September 11, 2001.

    Airmen with the Idaho Air National Guard’s 124th Air Support Operations Squadron showed family and loved ones, first hand, their job at Saylor Creek Training Range during their Kin Appreciation Day. During the event, attendees were able to see up close the equipment used by Joint Terminal Attack Controllers, or JTACs, and watch A-10 Thunderbolt IIs conduct strafing runs with their GAU-8 gatling cannon.     On today's Zero Limits Podcast we have a chat with Troy Knight former Royal Australian Airforce Joint Terminal Attack Controller, Author and PSD Operator. The Combat Controllers are known as the Special Forces unit of the Air Force, with Troy deploying alongside members of the Special Operations Task Group in combat in the Middle East. Throughout his Military career Troy deployed on multiple operations to Iraq and Afghanistan tasked with combat air control calling in ordinates in a combat area. Troy also spent a couple of years on the private security circuit providing hostile environment security in Iraq. He is now retired and spends his time and resources giving back to the veteran community. His book “Havoc 06” chronicles his journey and sheds light on the struggles many face once they leave the combat zone. Listen in for more - Let's Go!
