#056 - PULGASARI (1985)
Es rumort im feudalen Korea! Der paranoide König vermutet eine geheime Rebellion innerhalb seiner Bevölkerung. Kurzerhand lässt er bewaffnete Soldaten durch die Bauerndörfer reiten, um potentielle Aufständige zu entlarven. Als einige Rebellen und ein widerspenstiger Schmied in Gefangenschaft geraten, wissen die Bauern nicht mehr weiter. So opfert sich der alte Schmied, um ein metallfressendes Monster namens Pulgasari zu erschaffen, das seinen Landsleuten im Kampf gegen den Tyrannen zur Seite stehen soll.
Kaiju Eiga-Filme gibt es neben Godzilla ja zahlreiche. Aber es gibt tatsächlich nur EINEN aus Nordkorea. PULGASARI entstand im Rahmen einer kulturellen Unterhaltungsreform in den 80er-Jahren, die der spätere Diktator Kim Jong-Il höchstpersönlich ankurbelte. So wurde für diesen Monsterfilm nicht nur ein Regisseur aus Südkorea verschleppt, sondern auch die Godzilla-Schmiede Toho über Umwege für das Filmprojekt nach Nordkorea gelotst.
