In this Bible Story, Korah plots to overthrow Moses and openly challenges Moses in front of all the people, claiming he's a dictator and thief of glory. God chose the Levites to take care of the tabernacle, and within the tribe of Levi, he picked Aaron’s family to have the special duty of offering sacrifices and burning incense. In Numbers 16, a Levite named Korah and 250 Israelite leaders accuse Aaron and Moses of setting themselves above everyone else. What’s going on here? We can't afford enough money to ransom our lives from the power of death. Good News! God can. Andrew and Edwin highlight the most important contrast within this psalm. Of course, the cost of our ransom wasn't paid in silver and gold. It was paid with the blood of Jesus Christ.

The sons of Korah move away from lament and praise and into wisdom. Psalm 49 has all the markers of wisdom literature, sounding very much like the beginning of Proverbs. Andrew and Edwin discuss the nature of wisdom and understanding, how important they are for us, and what the main wisdom in this psalm really boils down to.

Psalm 48

Andrew and Edwin take a step back and notice the entire series of psalms that have been labeled as from the Sons of Korah. They seem to tell a story. But there is one weird psalm smack in the middle. It was that wedding psalm. They consider that this is a foreshadowing that the city of God is actually His bride. This, of course, takes them to Revelation 21-22, the bride city of God, the new, heavenly Jerusalem. Of course, this refers to Christ's church. This is us. Praise the Lord!

We've already seen that Jerusalem will not remain the joy of all the earth. It's future (from the perspective of Psalm 48) is up and down. But ultimately, Jerusalem would be destroyed in 70AD at the hands of the Romans. Andrew and Edwin take a look at what that means for the church and what is the special city of God now.

Jerusalem, Mt. Zion, the city of David, Mt. Moriah, the threshing floor of Ornan. All are talking about the same place. The place where God chose to let His name dwell. And what a name. Jerusalem was the city of the Great King. What made Jerusalem special was its special inhabitant. Andrew and Edwin consider a little of the history of Jerusalem and of its theological significance.
