Cult classic? Weird misstep? Secret early version of Fight Club? We dive deep into the film and maybe don't come back up for air.
Joel has a new name for the Horror genre you're going to love. Overboard & Horrid Henry

    Overboard & Horrid Henry

Ahoy there, fellow Bad Dads! Today's episode of the Bad Dads Film Review is teeing off with our top picks of golf movies, sailing into a classic comedy from the 80s, and wrapping up with a bit of mischievous fun for the kids.

    Top 5 Golf Movies:

    1. Caddyshack (1980): A comedy classic that’s as much about golf as it is about gophers and gut-busting laughs.
    2. Happy Gilmore (1996): Adam Sandler brings his unique brand of humor to the golf course in this hilarious underdog story.
    3. Tin Cup (1996): A romantic comedy that mixes love and golf with Kevin Costner leading the way.
    4. The Legend of Bagger Vance (2000): A magical and inspiring film where golf meets spirituality, starring Will Smith and Matt Damon.
    5. The Greatest Game Ever Played (2005): A heartwarming underdog tale set against the backdrop of the early 20th-century golf world.

Did any of these make our Top 5??

Our main feature is the 1987 comedy Overboard, starring Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. This film is a laugh-a-minute affair with Hawn as a spoiled heiress who gets amnesia and Russell as a carpenter who convinces her they're married. It's a wild ride of mistaken identity, unexpected romance, and hilarious hijinks. As dads, we appreciate the film’s take on family and the chaos that comes with it.

For the little ones, we're talking about Horrid Henry. This animated series, based on the popular books, is all about the adventures and misadventures of Henry, a kid with a knack for trouble. It's a fun show that kids love, and let's be honest, we dads can't help but chuckle at Henry’s antics too.

So, whether you're a golf enthusiast, a fan of classic 80s comedy, or looking for a show to keep the kiddos entertained, this episode has something for everyone. Tune in to Bad Dads Film Review for our usual mix of insight, humor, and dad-tastic commentary. 🏌️‍♂️🚤👦🎬🍿

    The Christmas Chronicles 2

    The Christmas Chronicles 2

If it surivived the edit, a story about Dan's gargantuan toe map kicks off tonights festive episode as we take a look at Netflix's THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES 2. Having enjoyed the family-friendly action hijinks and inspired casting of Kurt Russell in the original, expectations were high for this sequel. Whilst the pure sexiness of Russell's Marvelequse Santa continues to dazzle us, unfortunately the film takes a long time to get going and drops its emotional arc to digress on expansions to the monstrous CGI Elves and their dull mythology. Our kids seemed to all enjoy it and I had three large glasses of red wine while we watched it, so it gets a strong recommend from me. Merry Christmas for those who do and for those who don't, have a nice day anyway.

Joel and Chris are joined by Quentin Tarantino buffs Alex and Katy to discuss how to put The Thing into Death Proof, Tarantino's grimily ironic grindhouse tribute.

Dark Blue with Dan from Shoot the Hostage

Dark Blue with Dan from Shoot the Hostage

Joel and Chris are thrilled to be joined by Dan from the brilliant movie podcast Shoot the Hostage to discuss Dark Blue, an underseen, possibly underrated corrupt cop drama starring Kurt Russell.
Then they put The Thing into it. Obviously!
With a script by James Ellroy and David Ayer and directed by Ron Shelton,  will this film be LA Confidential meets Training Day, or Suicide Squad meets Hollywood Homicide?
Joel thinks Scott Speedman's character is a momo, Chris thinks Ron Shelton is a very nice man, and Dan thinks David Ayer needs some career advice.

Tango & Cash with Matt O'Dwyer

Tango & Cash with Matt O'Dwyer

Joel and Chris are joined by Matt O'Dwyer as they try to understand the ridiculous intensity of 1989's Tango & Cash! And then put The Thing into it.
Kurt Russell and Sylvester Stallone wisecrack their way through the ultimate distillation of 1980s Buddy Cop nonsense. Parody? Sincere? Genuinely gritty cop drama? Probably not the last one.
Chris drops one of the few names he has to drop and genuinely impresses Matt. Joel has a wicky wicky wild comparison to offer. And Matt loves Brion James' bizarre cockney accent, primarily because he loves Brion James.
PLUS: An incredible quiz that somehow becomes a huge bonding experience.

    Executive Decision

    Executive Decision

How has it taken Chris and Joel this long to tackle a Steven Seagal film?
Of course, 1996's Executive Decision is really more of a Kurt Russell film, but there's plenty of Seagal talk to be had in this episode, just before they add The Thing to it in the best way possible!
Seriously, how many podcasts cover Executive Decision? Give this a listen!
Joel finds the not-so-secret connection between this film, Suicide Squad and Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. Chris somehow confuses the movie for a different one he hasn't actually seen.  And they both find that John Leguizamo grows in their estimation. Or should that be... Pestimation?

Friend of show Comrade Yui returns to discuss John Carpenter's 'Escape From L.A.', his raucous and acidic sequel to 1981's 'Escape From New York'. Derided by both audiences and critics, we offer a defense of the film as a vital work of Carpenter's late period that manages to thrill as an action picture, while wryly thumbing its nose at the corrupt values of Hollywood and its own existence as a prototype for modern "legacy sequels".

We begin by talking Carpenter in the 90s, a time when he was taking his biggest swings (while also facing some of his most frustrating conflicts with studios). Then, we take a look at the fascinating tenor of the film, and how it balances the acerbic, raw energy and wit of the original film while taking aim at societal ills of 1996 America with even more directness and urgency than its predecessor. Finally, we compare the film to other great movies (and one 2021 sequel specifically) that have followed in the spirit of 'Escape From L.A.', reckoning with legacy, while also boldly subverting audience expecations in pursuit of revealing the deeper truths and authenticity of their creators.

    Escape From New York

    Escape From New York

Chris and Joel start Season 3's Kurt Russell odyssey by discussing Escape From New York! And then putting The Thing into it.
A cult classic, and the first non-Thing John Carpenter film they've covered, featuring Russell's star-making performance as Snake Plissken,  not to forget Van Cleef, Borgnine, Pleasence, and Mr. Harry Dean Stanton!
Joel goes highbrow with some Greek mythology,  Chris adores Romero (the character, not the director), and they're both fascinated by the cultural significance of  'Chock Full o' Nuts'.
(Chris also likes Romero the director.)

    Lockout

    Lockout

Connor & Jon get sent to space prison or Manhattan prison as they examine the weird Euro-action b-movie Lockout, and it's definite point of inspiration Escape from New York. They examine the actual legal action that was taken against Lockout and decipher how original of an idea did Luc Besson have? Jon thinks there's a better bad movie that could have been made, Connor is annoyed at the rules of space this film breaks, and both question the place of Snake Plissken in 80s' and modern action films.

WARNING: Major spoilers for Escape from New York & Lockout, minor spoilers for Big Trouble in Little China & Predator
