    Basketball Love

Elements of a great coach are evident when there's love & respect for the game.  The Women's National Developmental League (WNDL) runs adjacent to the WNBA and one of the women's basketball coaches, Tony Thompson, is ready to impart some mentorship and wisdom to women athletes. Thompson shares about his coaching style, the best way to network and speaks on his NCAA beginnings as a ball player.

Jasmine Thomas of the Connecticut Sun

Jasmine Thomas of the Connecticut Sun

Jasmine Thomas of the Connecticut Sun joins Kurt and Trish for a sneak peek of the 2021 WNBA season.

We hear about the basketball journey that has taken her around the world, from Russia, to Israel and many other countries in between.  What is life in the “W” like, and what changes has she seen since first being drafted in 2011.  Does she still bleed Duke blue, even though she has spent the majority of her career so close to the legend that is UConn? (the answer is of course; once a Blue Devil always a Blue Devil). Where will life lead after basketball, what are her hopes for the future of the women’s game?  We find out about all of this and so much more.

Today we welcome a mom with two children who made it in the world of professional basketball. Sara Parker, mom of Chicago Sky forward Candace Parker and Anthony Parker who played in the NBA for many years and the EuroLeague, joins “Court-side moms”.

Candace has had a storied career - chosen first overall in the 2008 WNBA draft by the Los Angeles Sparks, she’s won a WNBA championship, two WNBA MVP Awards and two Olympic Gold medals. She was also the first player to win the Rookie of the Year and the WNBA Most Valuable Player Award in the same season and Sara talks about what it’s been like to accompany her daughter along her incredible journey.

Sara talks about the relationship between Candace and Anthony, how they’ve supported each other along the way, Anthony’s time with the Toronto Raptors, the importance of family to them all including Candace’s role as a mom and what it’s meant for Anthony to be a dad. We touch on the differences between their professional careers and the blessings and the sacrifices they’ve all experienced along the way.
